Last week, I received a call from Jacky and he informed me that a group of hobbyist would like to visit my pond and he requested me to arrange a few other pond visits. Can I say no? I contacted Hwong and others and all were too eager to join in the fun. On the 25/08/07, Jimmy Tan the Singapore 13th Koi Show champion, Jacky, JJ and others arrived in my house at noon. A number of local koi hobbyist including our founder member Lau, Chan, Chia, Robert Yap together with Hwong, Yang, Lim, Dr Zhang, Raymond Hew, Andrew, Jeff Paul, Kepong Vincent and many others turned up to make it a memorable occasion. It happened to be Jacky’s birthday and a little birthday party was held with the cutting of the traditional birthday cake. Later after a lunch, Vincent led us to Lim’s house in Ejok. Yes, we netted some kois for the hobbyist close observation. About my pond and the kois, I think Hwong and the others who visited my pond are the best persons to describe it. I hope they will accept my offer and comment on it. I must confess that the water in my big pond was only up to 70% satisfactory level that day because I just emptied all the water and refilled in about 3 weeks ago (Yah, I had some parasite problem after bringing the new kois from Singapore. I transferred the kois to the small pond to treat them while letting the big pond dry in the sun). Lim’s Pond – Ejok Led by Vincent of Kepong, we moved on to Lim’s house in Ejok. Well, the drive was like a F1 race. But luckily all touched the finish line safely. We were shown some huge Momo kois. What I liked most was the beautiful pond with crystal clear water. Gan’s house at Bukit Jelutong It started raining cats & dogs but that was no hindrance to us. Even if the sky comes down we were prepared to move on. Our next stop was to a beautiful landscaped pond at Bukit Jelutong. Raymond Hew took us there. Although the kois were mind – boggling, the water condition was not good – maybe because of too many kois and other defects, which the rain prohibited us from examining. Hwong’s Place – Subang The next stop was at our club secretary’s house at Subang. He has redone his pond. I found it simple and pleasing to the eye. The filter was simple too and not stacked up with filter materials. Easy for cleaning purposes. I presume that the Bakki Shower was doing the entire job. I found one kohaku striking but it is a pity that the tail is torn. Yang’s Place – Subang The last and final stop was at Yang’s house. As usual he fascinated us with his beautiful kois. A sanke was outstanding. After 2 years, I had the opportunity to see R kohaku – measured about 63cm++. When we were back in Japan, I remember making an opening offer of RM20, 000.00 for this koi but Yang went on to buy it at a much higher price. I didn’t pursue further because my good friend Yang was hell – bent to buy it. Well, I am happy to see it in our shores. Yang was kind enough to bowl it for our view. If it can put on volume like Richard’s kohaku (R Kohaku) it will be a great day for Yang. Jaded and with a happy koi outing, we left home. I wish to thank all those who helped to make it a happy and unforgettable koi day. If there is no cooperation from members, nothing could be done. Those of you who were present can we have your input please. Appreciation & Comments from those who could not make it, most welcome.
