Smile for the camera Can't Post

Hi all,

I want to take some pictures of my koi and note down details etc, so I can check their growth rate over the next year.
But Since they are a little camera shy this means placing them in a display container.

I will use the water from the pond to fill the container as it's crystal clear at the moment anyway. I know this is stressful for the koi but I also want to check them for any signs of disease.

They should only be in the container for about a minute or two each.

Are there any special precautions I should take or any reccomendations for the container. I imagine that light blue will show up the true colour of the koi best.

Also it is winter here and the water temp is about 10C. Do you think I should wait until summer or is now the best time as they will be a little docile ?

Let me know your ideas if any.
Thanks
Stuart

Hi Stuart

Wish I could there with my Canon EOS and my Fuji Finepix when you are shooting your models. It would surely take my breath away.

Might be tricky trying to transfer the beauties from the net to the display container without them jumping out. Why not shoot them when they are in the net near the surface? In that case if they jump they still fall back into the water. I suppose you might get a clear shot if you use a fast shutter speed.

Some of the big ones are quite tame. I have seen one fella walk right into a pond and lift up a large koi out the water with his bare hands and had his photo taken. These are the Samurai koi which don't flinch even when you cut them up!

You could be right in that koi are not so active when it's cold. These fellas go into a semi-hibernation mode or some sort in winter. Wish humans can do that. Travel far out into space and wake up light years away in some exotic planet of beautiful creatures and koi. To infinity and beyond!

Cheers and have fun!

Hi Josh,

I only have a Kodak DC280 digital, so compared to your camera's I don't think my quality will be as good. But at least I can put all my pictures on my Web site. Still under construction to I'm not going to give any URL's away just yet.

Stuart

P.S. Hope you had a good holiday !
