Soragoi??? Can't Post

Could you tell me if the picture of a Ginrin Soragoi is really a soragoi? just want to make sure - what do you think of the Kohaku at the bottom left side? Is that good?

We have reserved the Soragoi but I just would like to know it's real name.

Hi! Mr. Chingbee,

It's a Ginrin Chaigoi. Wink
Metallic Chaigoi is called Kin/Gin Chaigoi.

Soragoi color is grey.
Metallic Sorgoi is called Nezu Ogon.

The Sandan Kohaku has good pattern, but weak in kiwa & poor body shape (pot-belly).

Hope you don't mind I being frank. Blush

Smile Happy koi hunting.

Eric Lim

No Eric I don't mind your frankness, in fact I really welcome it - that kohaku is being sold at a very high price, so I'm sure not gonna be buying it, but I wanted to have an honest opinion on it.

Thank you for confirming the real name of that chagoi, all the while I thought it's soragoi :)

I'll make sure to send a picture of the koi's here first before my purchase :)

Eric,

Could those shiny scales are the result of the reflection from a camera flash light? Its seems like a green chagoi.

Hi! Mark,

Green chaigoi are the lighter brown type.
This is the normal darker brown type.
Then there is the reddish type which I'll call Hi Chaigoi.
The very dark to near black type in my opinion are like Magoi - of not much value.

Whatever - for any good koi = the head must be clean. Smile
This one - I'll very sure, its the Ginrin type. Quite common actually.
Now, we even have the Chaigoi Doitsu Pearl Ginrin - plenty at Nippon Koi Farm. Wink

Cheers. Koi Show is coming - more jumbo koi to see. Saliva man....Tongue

Eric

I'm very sure this chagoi is ginrin - not just a reflection of the flash Smile by the way Eric - the kohaku is not at all pot belly - it was due to the angle of the picture - I just came back from the dealer and saw it from above - the belly is not protruding like the picture above. The white is really nice and clean, the red is not so red yet but I think it will improve with age - but I will not be buying it as it is expensive. Tongue

Hi Chingbee,

Just for comparatives, How big is the kohaku and how much were you quoted. Thru my surfing, and from photos of kois being offered by dealers like Peter waddington in the UK, the prices for nice looking kois about 30cm are much cheaper than those available here. But of course photos can be deceiving. So we end up looking for small kois but inexperience can end you with a bunch of kois you neither want nor have the heart to dispose of. Thats why I posted the Koi Selection Thread. Dear Mark and Gurus alike; perhaps you can share your wisdom.

Rgds.

The price appear similar to those here like a lovely Sanke I was tempted to buy, but the quality I cannot comment. I have been shown two different kohakus of Approx.40cm, one USD2,500 and the other USD 4,000. I cud not figure out where the major difference was between the 2 kois. Both looked beautiful to me.

Some one told me if you like it it is worth the price asked! May be thats why friends always exclaim "wow your fish are so beautiful!"....to remain on the invite list....Ha Ha....

Thanks n Rgds

Where is mom? Nice to get the young ones into a hobby and can be considered Father/Mom and son thing. How old is your son? ......My 10 yr old son sitting next to me wants to know the answer to the million dollar question:How to train the kois to feed like your son did? May be your dealer can tell. Come to think of it; kois at the dealers should be frighten as they are constantly being netted or running for dear lives each time a koi is sold or shown. BUT they are not. Our kois will run away as if they see ghost when all you want to do is to feed them!

Mom was behind the camera Tongue my son is gonna be 13 this year, actually my dealers kois started hand feeding like that when he introduces a 30 inches chagoi in his pond.

I tried it at home and voila!! my biggest koi (the doitsu hariwake) started hand feeding. All I did was (patience) get a piece of bread first thing in the morning (when they had nothing to eat yet) and immerse the bread into the water - I had to wait several minutes, keeps on holding unto the bread and trying to tease them into eating, first the doitsu tried it (timidly at first) and then one hi-fin ogon tried a little bite. So out of the 19 kois in the pond - only 2 took bites.

Tonight, I tried again and as usual the hariwake was the first to eat - and voraciously at that!! no more shyness Shocked, the hi-fin ogon also took some bite and another hi-fin kohaku tried - well, I'm very satisfied and was soooo excited to tell my friends!! hahahaha Cool

I'll try again tomorrow morning.

hi Chingbee,

Really envy you that u can handfeed your koi. My koi are more shy and eat only when i went away Crazy. So I suspect it is because of my tank size. Mine is a 6 by 2.5 by 2.5 feet glass tank, with both sides covered so that the koi are not so affected by movement around them.

Would like to know your pond/tank size. Thanks.

12 feet by 5 feet and about 3 feet depth- you can see my present pond at the member's pond column - it has no bottom drain and I hope Unsure I could start the renovation by April. I again hand feed the kois this morning and as usual only 3 got the guts to go near my hands Cool

My initial design of the new pond will be about (we change our minds every now and then Wink) 20ft x 12 feet x 5-6 feet. I might make it bigger when excavation started, that depends on the actual size when the hole could be seen Crazy
