Taiwanese Koi Can't Post

Recently friend of mine Mr Vincent Wong, hobbyist turn businessman have started a koi shop in KL promoting Taiwan koi.
I ask him why koi from Taiwan, because it doesn't sound very good as koi are mostly from Japan. As for my personal opinion,it doesn't sound original(strictly personal opinion).
According to Vincent,Koi from Taiwan is not as famous as those from Japan but they offer cheaper price for the normal quality koi.For the Tategoi and show fish, they can be very pricy as well.
I told Vincent, to change my view of Taiwanese, you must convince me in term of quality and price. To show my support to him,i asked him to import 1 sanke abt 50 cm for me.The condition was i will only take the koi subject to my liking ie(price=quality).
When the shipment arrived,i asked Mr Lau Moon Ling to accompany me to inspect the koi.
It turn out to be quite good and the price he quoted me is very reasonable.
In summary,i am very please with this 53 cm Taisho Sanke from Taiwan as how its appear right now. But,i yet to find out how is the growing process(Body and sumi development)in future. As for the price, compare to koi from Japan it is abt 30-40% cheaper.
Again, this is not a advertisement act.My purpose is perhap there is a bigger scope for koi hobbyist to enjoy. Please,if anyone who have experience in keeping Taiwanese koi, please share your knowledge with me.

Hi Dave
I will be in KL next weekend for a meeting. Just wondering Vincent's shop opens in the evening. What else does he sells? - like portable vat.

If he has Sanke or Komonryu I may just grab.

Take it off line on email if you think its inappropriate to talk it here. Thanks.

Mark

hi David
its nice that more people are showing interest in koi that are not solely bred in Japan
Anyway, I m interested to know exactly where is this shop that you have mentioned.
So that people like me who are interested in kois no matter where they are from could take a look at what taiwan has to offer Smile
thanx... this is not promotional... i think its for the forums interest

Hi! Everyone,

FYI - I visited some koi-breeders in Taiwan when I attended the Nishikigoi Keepers Society 6th. District Koi Show.

I was much impress by the high quality of their breeds & prices. Quality are comparable to Japan. But their parent kois are still Jap. stock.

Put it this way, if 2 Jap. couple went to live in Taiwan & have a child - is the child a Japanese? So is Japanese kois breed in Beijing.

Main thing is the dealers must be honest to say the stock are from .... & not pretend it's from Jap. & sell at that price.

In koi breeding - the key thing is culling.
That is where the Jap. excellent. And the Taiwanese are catching up!

Regards,
Eric

Dear Mr David C H Ngie,
I am just a beginner in breeding koi. Now I am quite confused about the Japanese koi and Taiwanese Koi because a lot of people tell me the Taiwanese koi are very good now , is that true ?
And some of them do mention that now is very hard to get the pure Japanese Koi and my self do also find that Japanese koi are much expensive if compare to Taiwanese koi . But what I am affraid is the Taiwanese koi will became ugly when they grow big just like our local koi will this case happen ,please give some advise . Thank You .
