Hi Whelan,

You do have a very interesting collection of different variety of Koi. Overall, very colourful collection you have...must be very pleasing to the eyes. I like your Kohaku, thick Hi and nice pattern.

How big is your FG tank ?

Cheers

Hi Tan,

Thanks for your kind comments. My fibre tank is abt 5 x 3.5 x 2 ft with abt 10 koi. I am careful with them not to overfeed and to maintain the water in good condition with regular water change. Most of my koi are small in sizes but I know one day they will grow up and hopefully by then I will change to a bigger fibre tank.

Yeah I like the kuhaku as well and also the white platinum orgon..they are both growing very fast. Smile

Yup, they'll grow very fast with lotsa food and good water...and before you know it, the tank will be too small. Wink

Re: [whelan] Take a look at my koi photo [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi,

I need some advise from you.

I've this blue fibre tank. 3Ft long and the rest are quite similar to yours. I've 6 Kois in it. 1 bubble stone and 1 ehim external filter connecting to a thin pipe with multiple holes for the water to flow out. I've also a internal mini filter.

I'm afraid that they will jump, so I cover the top with plank and glass. But there's sufficient exchange of air to the tank.

The problem is all my kois stay in one corner near the internal filter the whole day. They dont seems like yours swim freely around. All my kois in the tank for nearly 1 month and it's still the same.

What could be the problem? Is it that the tank with too many bubbles causing the koi to be scared?

Please help.

Thanks.

Regards,

Vincent

hi Vincent,

Perhaps it is the glass on top creating somekind of reflection and shadow that cos the koi to feel shy and fearful. Have u check the water parameter? Are they eating regularly? How big is your koi, maybe u can introduce a slightly bigger and braver koi to lead them around.

Unfortunately I am still new to the hobby cant comment much on the oxgen bubbles, u can try to reduce the bubbles and see what is their behaviour.

Meanwhile hope the koi expert here can help to throw some light on your situation.

Re: [whelan] Take a look at my koi photo [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi Vincent

The problem is not in the bubbles as bubbles will obscure any images from beyond the pond surface. Besides, bubbles means oxygenation and more Oxy means more active koi. Further more turbulences in the water will also not shy away koi as it manifests the actual condition in a stream and the kois get to exercise more. Explore further on external noises and knocks on pond or any reflection both in and outside the pond. koi are very sensitive fishes. Aslight knock on the tank is always responded with 5 knocks by the kois on the walls of the tank.

To whelan,
If i were u, i shall immediately invest in a bigger tank. beleive me, it makes a whole world of difference with happy kois and happy owner. If u are around Klang Valley, there is one 8'X4'X3' FG tank at Arowana waiting to be disposed off. the price i know is RM 800. Take it -it is cheap. Note:no commission from jeff-just to make a koi keeper happier.

Re: [mattloui] Take a look at my koi photo [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi,

Thanks for all the advise.

My Kois are around 6-7" long. AS for why I place the glass on top is to prevent further koi from jumping. I've lost 2 kois because of this. Water condition is okie but I need they are new to the environment, I guess so.

In the tank, I've only place a few pebbles.

What size will be good to tame them down? I've already got a Chagoi which is about 5". I guess it's too small to tame the group. How about a black koi?

Hi Vincent,

to prevent your kois from jumping out...u can also low abit of the water level...so you would not have to put glass on top.
