I don't believe that this is an unidentified koi... It is an extremely poor quality Ginrin Sanke or Showa... poor skin quality as well as pattern.... and have sumi and hi which are randomly scattered and unclear...

Sorry for being blunt.. but it is what it is..

THanks water again for your feedback. i was told that it was a special bred koi (German carp or something) when i bought it but after a few months, i dont seem to see it grow and dont seem nice to my eyes, hence decided to bowl up and gave back to the shop i bought for free, an indirect way of saying my last time at their shop....well we have some short term businessman around i suppose...rgds

You mentioned that you spend average about RM300 per koi and you have about 30 pieces - meaning that you have spent $9000 total. On hindsight, it would have been better to buy just 7 or 8 kois for $9000... meaning average RM1000+ a koi and ensure that these are real show pieces and jumbo kois. If you are afraid of not chosing the right smaller ones, go for something slightly pricey but bigger at 50cm ++ guarantee female with cert, if you want assurance.

The enjoyment you derived from every single one of those fish alone will far exceed that of the 30 kois collectively. And you will keep them for years or still be able to re-sell them to hobbyist for a price... You will never have to return the fish to the dealer for free.

I'm afraid I have to agree with water completely, and it is definitely not a German (doitsu) Koi. Where I live that type of fish are only found at pet shops that do not specialize in Koi, and they sell for about $3.

this is something i learn now as its a new change from Marine to Koi and to my surprise there is so much to learn especially choosing the right koi at the right price. I suppose all these supposedly long time fish dealers or farms are just opportunist and take this opp to sell their rotten eggs to newbies but they forgot that if words goes around, they wont have much biz then....u should get the hint from the location i mentioned in my earlier post. Perhaps time to go to Sentul to get some real koi...

I have some from Puchong, not show quality but still doing ok. Some garden type dealer really give me some doubt always see the same boxes to show that their koi came from japan.

To cheat on the type of koi is totally unacceptable, mind share who is this dealer???

I guess it is hard to tell where the fishes might have came from or whether bred locally. Have heard some rumours some dealer is selling locally bred as japan koi.

Locally bred koi too may be as good but it is not acceptable for them to cheat.

cheers

all mine are japanese bred koi as majority i got it from reputable dealers that most of u frequent. Likely, since i dont know them and somehow trusted them since i for one am not an expert how to choose the right fish, i left it to their workers to choose for me. Often, when i buy, i will buy at least 5 pieces or more hence u will note that i have over 30 pieces today which am taking more than half to be shelved post opinion i get. The shocking part is to hear from some of you that those may be local bred which makes me doubt those reputable dealers. anyway, one of these weekend, i will bowl up more to post here so that i can have a feel what those quality like though it seems to be the best of the lot.

The sankes you posted are quite ok.. but the two kohakus are the ones which is of poor quality. Again, we can't be sure if these are local bred.. or japanese bred .... but the quality of the two kohakus are somewhat dubious. Another point, is the pond water quality.... sometimes, kois lose their quality if the water in your pond is poor... and they go downhill very quickly. ... The food also play a part...

But what causes the doubt most is the hi of the kohakus.... which spills all over the places and patchy..

My water parameters seems fine with PH 8, NO2, NO3 & ammonia zero. Not sure what u meant by quality as am not expert in koi. On food, i used to feed them on those i got in a bucket of 3 kg from Atari which include both type, one of which is norm (wheat germs) and the other is colour. I basically switch when one is finished but find it costly since the bucket of 3 kg can last me less than 1 month or worst.

Then i bought a sack of (i think) 20 kg from Arowana Aquarium. Cant remember the brand as i have thrown away the sack.

Rgds
