Which fish? Can't Post

Newbie forum user and carp owner needs help choosing 12 fish from these fotos that will then be airfreted to me. Please does anyone have time to help select the fish from these 3 fotos?

My new pond has been empty for 5 months as I have not been able to find good quality fish for sale in Bahia (North East Brasil). I have built a 15,000 litres pond here in the centre of my hotel garden and am really looking forward to get some beutiful Koi living in it. I have found a breeder in the south of Brasil who has send me these fotos to choose my fish from. I have no experience in selecting quality Koi.

The breeder's Dad said on the phone that these are all potential show quality fish, what do you think?

They are all attractive pond fish, but your breeder friends father is too easily impressed as there are no potential show fish in the group. Show quality fish are few and far between and quite costly.
Since this is for a decorative pond at a business it would probably be best if you did not purchase show quality anyway. Chances of visitors accidentally feeding them something they shouldn't have (out of ignorance) or spilling something in the water are going to be pretty high.
I would select a nice variety of mixed colors to give you and your guests a show of beauty, and be satisfied with that.
The only real question is how many to get. How many gallons is the pond and how well filtered is it? That will determine the safe stocking level you will be able to have and maintain beautiful Koi and good water.

My 2cents worth of choices. Hope they fit your selection, too.

hi coqueiro,

are these the only kois you can choose from? if so, metallic kois stands out in a pond. In the first pic, I would keep the kujaku (metallic silver with orange patches), the yamabuki (metallic yellow) on top and the shiro utsuri (black and white)in the middle. Basing my personal choice on body shape since that will compensate for the lack in pattern and color quality.

2nd pic. goshiki looks ok, but might be male. doitsu ogon might end up pot belly. kin ki utsuri is ok if you do not mind too much black on the face.

3rd pic. showa on the corner top right and maybe the kohaku on the left .

thats my 2 cents

Thank you for the advice, its good to have as not knowing much about Koi and buying from distance means trusting the breeder alot!

I have a 3 chamber gravity filter and UV filter, no vortex yet. You can see some pics of the pond in the Gardens section of the gallery here http://coqueiro-verde.com/portuguese/gallery2007.html (the kidney shaped pond, the other pond with the bridge is more of a water feature pond and has some pet shop bought Koi I plan to rebuild this pond next year).

Will let you know how I get on.

It looks like a very beautiful setting. My only suggestion would be to limit the number to about 1 Koi for every 500 gallons of water. This will allow your filter to mature with the Koi as they grow, and they will grow considerably over time. Since you are in a tropical area they will grow all year, and your filter will have to take care of their water both now and in their much larger future.
