Yamabuki ogon - cut in the tail Can't Post

Hi all,

After a few week since I reported my nice yamabuki with a "bu" on its head, having a cut near the tail fan, it has still not recovered. I have tried a type of brown powder which turn green on touching water and 0.3% salt solution twice. I thought it will be healed naturally as most of u suggested to leave it alone for the time being but todate the wound seems unhealed and in fact the affected area widen slightly.

Strange to say that despite all this, Bu ( its name ) remains cheerful and most nimble compared to others in the pond. Can some show me how to help this poor koi Blushto recover as soon as possible.

Pls see the attached picture of bu for a better diagnosis (Yamabuki)

Best regardsSly

Oooo Ouch. Looks like a case of the ulcer. Possibly an aeromonas infection. U probably need to get the fish into smaller hospital tank to do an antibiotic dose or even a jab of baytril or some antibiotic.

HWONG seems to know where to get the jab from in KL. Maybe he'll post where he got that package? I'd like to know also. (From Jeff??)

It's been a couple of weeks so maybe it's time to do something more drastic b4 it gets worse.

    Just my opinion.

    kev.

    KevKoi,

Looks like ulcer. Better get it out before the other Kois get infected. I learn my lessons before.

If you are desperate to save it, you can called our Singapore Koi vet for help. Charges range from $150 onwards or you can drive to Summer Koi to get help. Call Summer Koi before going down. The elder brother is an expert. He saved my Sanke before.

    Hi, Kevkoi and jsoon

    Thanks.

My god!! I thought it is just a cut and since it behaves normally.I will try to get him some dose of antibiotic but is there a need to treat the pond? Will it spread to others?

Kevin, I am not residing in KLCool. Thanks.

Well, based on my personal experience - I tried yellow powder but it may "kill" your filter bugs.

On the other hand, the Koi may not heal.

Antiboitic jab is still the best. Summer Koi charges about S$30 for each jab plus some treatments.

I have a story to tell...long, long time ago...no really lah!! 1 year ago...one of my Koi got infected by ulcer and it spread to some of my Kois.

The funny thing is that the Kois are alright even with ulcer but the ulcer start to "eat" them inside slowly.....and I lose them one by one.

Initially, I was trying my best like using yellow powder, pp etc. but it was no used.

It was not until one of my favourite Koi got the ulcer and a very bad ulcer that I started to cry help!!! The ulcer had "eaten" into the cheek bone of the Koi.

I went to Summer and the elder brother was a real "sifu". He cut out all those infected flesh and bone and applied some lotion. He also gave an antiboitic jab.

My Koi has survived till this day.

What is the morale of story ????

    Kev,

Koifun, Singapore lang, so my kang tau no use. But if you want to know, it's going to cost you lah. Those who want to know email me lah coz, I am not sure this stuff is regulated or not.

Koifun, you should definitely remove the chap and treat seperately. I did same for my Tancho in a big round pail (didnt have Q tank then)and lots of aeration.

    wish your BU well.

    Hi Koifun

How's the ogon doing now? Has it been isolated into a Q tank yet? What medication did you use to treat? Any use of salt? Hopefully it will recover soon.

certain paristes will cause an ulcer, the infection is then the second phase , i ve had them eat right through into the body cavity , the fluke picture i posted on the other post was the animal that killed the fish (well ,that caused the bactria to )i was just referring to,they were right behind its head ,and i didn t even relize till to late just how deep the infection had gone (just looked like a little sore and the fish was active),by the time i got it into separate tank it pineconed and died two days later

You need to remove that poor lil one and put him in a tub by his self and add some healing meds and a lil reg. table salt and he should heal much better as the other Koi maybe keeping that soar open as all Koi love meat and will eat each other so thry that if it dont work u best take it to a Vet.Wink
