Nice white skin and pattern. Who is the breeder of this Koi ? That may give a hint whether it has the quality to grow to be a jumbo. Then again, it will also depend on how you will grow this Koi, water condition, environment and food.

Cheers

Kelvinwu,

22cm for S$280 is not uncommon but very much depends on bloodline. Which farm did you buy it from? The pattern looks good and the white skin is good. But the body is a little long. It could indicate that this is a male koi since the Hi is bright red.

It depends on what you mean by jumbo. Now a days, it is not difficult for koi to grow to 60-70cm. But to go over 80cm will be a challenge and depends a lot on the environment and space.

Cheers,
Patrick

Patrick,

Interesting to note that bright red on a Kohaku means male. Is that common ?

TanSL,

That's what I learned for a koi dealer. The young tosai (1 year old) koi that exhibit brilliant color are usually male koi. Where as femal Tategoi usually take years to develop the color.

Kelvinwu,
Not very experience with Koromo. May be the rest can help.

Best Regards,
patrick

Thanks for the info. Will take that into consideration when on my future Koi hunting. Anyway, to share what I read from magazines, the colour depends on the bloodline. Some exhibit brigther colours than others when they are young, ie some develop later. So, people like me will always have new things to learn.

Hallo Kelvin.

that is a very nice kohaku. the skin, judging from the photo, is very good. and the pattern, though of less importance imho, seems to be ideal for when the koi becomes a grown beauty. from a beginner's opinion, i think you have a very nice koi.

I would say SGD280 is a fair price.

and by the way, i believe this kohaku is from Nogami.

Hi Soelistyo,

Just interested to know why you suspected it came from Nogami. I would picture Nogami to be more of broader shoulder Koi. Well, this is from my recent reading of some mags.

Anyway, hope Kelvin to clear the air on this one.

Cheers

Re: [scorpio168] Young Kohaku [In reply to] Can't Post

kelvinwu,

yes please post pictures of those 3 kois you purchased. always interesting to see what the dealers here in Spore have to offer. if you don't mind to disclose the prices, even better! Smile

btw, for your and TanSL's info, the reason why i'm pretty sure your kohaku came from Nogami is because i purchased a couple of specimens from that batch myself (they arrived in November 02). if you selected your koi from the vat that was closest to the back door of the Summerkoi shop (it was full of 20-25cm kohaku and kujakus when i was there end/Nov), then that should be the same batch as the 2 kohakus i bought. the gentleman who selected the koi in Niigata/Japan himself told me he got the small kohakus from Nogami.

i don't know much about breeders myself, maybe TanSL would have more info about the characteristic of this breeder's kois?

one more piece of info, i mentioned SGD280.00/piece was a fair price because that is exactly what i paid for mine as well. hahaha.

judging from your pic, i think you selected one of the nicest there. let me know if it's growing well. i won't be seeing mine until April. i met the dealer again earlier this month and he told me other customers who bought from that batch have given him positive comments that the fish are growing very fast. hope you have same positive experience.

cheers!
