Hi Elmen SlySly

Many thanks for posting the ZNA 2008 Grand Champion . 106 cm for a Sanke is indeed very rare .
Though pattern is ma-ma-hu-hu ... the size of this monsterous Sanke is indeed the pride of Momotaro .SlySlySly

Congrats to Momotaro on the winning this year .SmileSmile

Cheers
David

Re: [DavidSoon] ZNA 2008 Grand Champion [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi David,

Mind sharing your thoughts on this sanke below. Everytime i examine this photo closely, i get baffled.PirateUnsure.. My question is, has the breeders perfected their breeding/selection skills to be able to produce such uniqueness in this sanke, that the sumi emerges only in the white area and almost never touching the beni? Or is this just another work of "cosmetic" enhancement?...Wink

Please don't get me wrong, I like this piece very VERY MUCH!!! Just abit perplexed...Sly

Re: [kemeer] ZNA 2008 Grand Champion [In reply to] Can't Post

Smile Hi Brother Keemer Smile

If only we can paint our gosanke according to our own choice of pattern and tone of beni , it would be much cheaper , than paying
10 times the value for this Sanke , compared to her peers .SlySlySly

Sumo sumi or what we define as sumi outside the beni , is a plus point during judging , but it does not score as much point as those awarded for " Body " . This Sanke you posted certainly have the sumi all or mostly at the right place and it's quite evenly spreaded from shoulder to tail , even though the sumi is not really complete or finished . Believe this is sansai probably and given this , she is yet to finish her sumi , which might increase in size or becomes bigger patches before the sumi mature and thicken. Nice bodyline .Sly

In the Momotaro Sanke auction held today , there were quite a handful of the Sankes that carry the sumi placement well , just like the one you posted . They were not cheap this round , with Sanke No : 1 going above 3.0 million Yen ...SlySlySlySly .

There is always a price to pay when it comes to sumi placement ... some nisais can call for as high as 2 to 3.0 million Yen easily ..SlySly
Sumi normally skin deep . In the case of this Sanke , cosmetic surgery not required , even if there's some more spot sumi that emerge later on .

Brother , dun think this fish is really expensive though , as the beni pattern is that of a traditional Sanke , just like the Jumbo Showa that was posted , likely to be from Isa FF if I'm not wrong . Isa FF produce lots of traditional Jumbo Showa , though the preference now is on Kindai Showa which we hardly see one as big as those traditional Showa from Isa .

I did sent in one 80 bu Sanke during the Airinkai Show last week and she came in 1st for 80 bu Sanke as well , but lost out to
another Kohaku for Rinho prize .

This is D Sanke II , 5 year old, kept in Sakai FF for the time being . SlySly

Cheers Brother Keemer , Keep in touch .

David

Re: [monscine] ZNA 2008 Grand Champion [In reply to] Can't Post

Laugh Brother Handy ..

Apology , "Ma-ma Hu-Hu " is a chinese lingo which is same as " so-so only " . Though the demerit on pattern and sumi was there , 38 out of 40 Airinkai Judges from the panel voted her to be the 2008 Airinkai Grand Champion .

From this we learn , that pattern , though is a merit , is not all that really matters in a big category . SlySly especially those above 80 bu . Bodyline and size really matters , as body already covers 50 pct of the score or points awarded .

Where or when can we really see Gosanke above one meter in length ???SlySly This Sanke was 103 bu last year during the show and this year , she's 106 cm .. and believed to be still growing . FD Food certainly have catered special food pallet for Momotaro .SlySly

BTW Brother Handy , Kiki double checked with Apki Chairman and was also informed the currently ban still in place . Will revert on this matter .

Cheers
David
