koi snobs Can't Post

Seems allot of people on this board are very unhelpful and don't even comment
unless you are in the loop. Its a shame this hobby seems to be over run with people who are snobs ,if your koi show the slightest
imperfections you will be shunned .

These koi after all are just carp and just because your koi are worth much more money ,and mine are just junk fish does not make you any better
than me.

Hello, I have not noticed this snobby feeling, in fact I noticed that most the people offer alot of help! Remember one thing, A TRUE KOI FAN is in this hobby because HE likes it, and if this is true, then who cars what the other think, they are not the ones sitting in front of my pond watching MY KOI! So dont be pissed off! If I can help you , just let me know!

You have 100 views. How can we be snobs? UnimpressedIf you did not get any attention, then we are snobs hereLaugh You have a name we can adress you by?. DOnt worry about your mutts, most of us dont start with quality kois anyway.

Now that you have got our attention, can you tell us more about yourself and your koi hobby?

I've never experienced anything like what you talk about.
I came here several years ago as a complete novice in order to learn. I was treated well, never shunned, and made to feel welcome. Most of our Koi are ordinary pond mutts that could never win anything at a show, so if I post pictures of them I don't expect much in the way of comments. Honest comments on poor fish can cause hurt feelings, so many choose not to say anything as a courtesy in order not to offend anyone.
I am also a member of another board which will be brutally honest about Koi quality, no matter who posts the picture. The slightest imperfection will be observed, pointed out, and if anyone takes offense it is considered immaturity. It is also a valuable place to learn what real quality looks like so you can polish your eye for Koi and learn to appreciate the beauty of living art swimming in your pond.
If you CHOOSE to be offended here, it is your choice... but this is a very friendly forum for Koi Keepers of every stripe.

Koi-bito? Those guys are good... technically astute and experienced. However, some of their arguments are over personal ego and not about koi Laugh.

Hi Dennis. Sometimes it seems I'm so busy I can't keep up with postingBlush. New threads pop up faster than I can find time for, so I wind up not saying much most of the timeSmile
Yeah, I was talking about K.B.
It is a great place to learn from very knowledgeable people, but you do have to learn to sift through the personal stuff that creeps in from time to timeTongue. Of course, I think personal junk creeps in anywhere a person might goCrazy... humans are involved after allWink

Here's a link to start with Smile. There are many sub-species of koi which I think many hobbyists (including me) would have problem identifying without a direct reference. The important thing is to know the major categories and understand what constitutes quality amongst them.

Be patient, it takes a little time to develop an eye for koi Wink

I'm more of a koi wastes treatment kinda person myself and hardly comment on the quality of markings and colour of a koi.

Don't prejudice us so early in your visit, we're a community of helpful koi keepers that try and do the best for one and another :).

I agree with you. People do tend to become a little(or a lot) snobbish about koi, once they have been koi keepers for a while. It is an phenomenon throughout the koi culture. Just keep the koi that you think is attractive regardless of what others think. Keep in mind that everyone's first koi collection most likely did not consist of show quality fish.
