the kohaku very pretty. looks like it came from sakai? looks like a female judging from the volume & pectoral fins. the maruten marking spot on, u sure its not surgically altered Tongue a bit more volume then it'll look stunning. demerits? no ojime, no white gap between the hi step with its tail. but overall i think its very cute

this kohaku come from Marudo. this man work for Dainichi, then goes on his own, his price is a whole lot better than Dainichi. This Kohaku have a bad spot: that is the sashi, if it has no sashi, then it's probably is a show koi. the head is ivory but in time it will be white, then the value will be even better. only 2 1/2 years old but it 15.5".
I learn an experience when you buy koi: buy the one young but large, it means will be a very healthy one latter.

yes marudo was working with dainichi along with other distiguished breeders such as nogami. even omosako jr did his apprenticeship there. well i dont know, im a diehard sakai & omosako fan. but dainichi & oomo showas are splendid too... i just drool when i see them.

i agree with you samantha when choosing koi's concerned look for the biggest one in the pond (if they come from the same spawning that is). these ones have the potential to go jumbo. for me, what i do is first i look at its body structure/ volume and then skin quality. n then only i look for the pattern. oh the koi must be healthy looking & active too :D

anyway, the sashi part. its not that bad. she will look stunning when she's a yonsai. not a show material but beautiful nonetheless. my good koi friend has been looking high and low for a maruten kohaku with a marking such as yours.
