It is a carp, but beyond that not much to tell. The one you describe as having no scales except a few down the back is called a "Doitsu", but which variety of doitsu is up for grabs as there are several varieties that are red, white, and black. Koi that are normally scaled on the entire body are "Wagoi", but they come in the same varieties as doitsu (literally hundreds of named varities...). The one you have pictured appears to be a mixed breed with some characteristics of sanke and showa. In these parts one like it is commonly referred to as an "Arkansas Speckledygoi", "Crapagoi", or "Muttagoi", which is not a compliment. It is a culled fish not acceptable to Koi keepers, which is why it went to a pet shop instead of a Koi dealer.
