what kind of koi Can't Post

Hi! My name is Caroline, I live in Canada and i love koi fishes. I was working in a small pet shop and i chose some small kois to add to my goldfish tank. I have three total. The biggest is 8 inches long, white red and black, no scales except for a couple silver ones on the back. The second one looks like the big one but 6 inches long, it has scales everywhere and a spot on the head. The last one is still small, around 5 inches long and it's gold and black. I am wondering if they were a particular race or breed and if they're worth something, or if they're totally ordinary and worthless. I took pictures to show you what they look like! If you could help me with this it would be greatly appreciated :) Thanks in advance .. Sincerely yours, Caroline

hi Carla, i'm real sorry that i disappoint you, this is probably your first time you have koi. As much as i am 20 years ago, everything that have a little color and swim, then i love it. However, if you plan to play with koi for a real long time as i do, discard these ugly worthless koi in a hurry, the faster you do the better you feel. buy real quality fish and keep. do not buy now then discard latter, Sorry

Hi Caroline, Im sorry i overlooked your message on the forum..i was looking at your koi pictures and from that picture, they looked like becko to me or shiro utsuri..you mentioned here, the color of the biggest koi is white red and black.. sounds like you have a showa..and the smallest sounds like its matsuba..

It is a carp, but beyond that not much to tell.
The one you describe as having no scales except a few down the back is called a "Doitsu", but which variety of doitsu is up for grabs as there are several varieties that are red, white, and black. Koi that are normally scaled on the entire body are "Wagoi", but they come in the same varieties as doitsu (literally hundreds of named varities...). The one you have pictured appears to be a mixed breed with some characteristics of sanke and showa. In these parts one like it is commonly referred to as an "Arkansas Speckledygoi", "Crapagoi", or "Muttagoi", which is not a compliment. It is a culled fish not acceptable to Koi keepers, which is why it went to a pet shop instead of a Koi dealer.
