Hi Samantha,

My choice is the modern Kindai Showa No.1. I think this Showa has an imposing and strong body shape
as compared to the traditional Showa No.2. By the look of the pectoral fin and body shape, I think this Kindai
Showa is probably a female koi whereas Showa No.2 which has a slight yellowish tint on the head plus a
slender body and deep colors is probably a male koi.

In my opinion, when the Kindai Showa mature with motoguro and finished sumi on the snow white shiroji in
the next few years, this koi will certainly be more superior than Showa No.2.

Best Regards,

thanks, thiamwa, your remark as exact as i think, i bought it in to you all can see, not because of the quality of the fish but how different people eyes are. the kindai go for 95 USD, the other one go for 2907 USD, (2907 USD exact). wow, what a different poeple eyes are indeed. I bring somemore so all of us can be educated. thanks for the reply again.

Wow! USD2,907 for Showa No.2! That is amazing. I am sure there much be a valid reason concerning the
Showa bloodline etc, etc. to justify that kind of asking price. Could it be from a Showa female parent koi which
was crown Grand Champion at the All Japan Show during the past couple of years?

No doubt, this Showa is a 'today show koi' becos' it has all the quality i.e. unique pattern, colors etc. and
I won't be at all surprise that it may have been crown a Champion Koi in the smaller size category recently.
Nonetheless, I don't see the all imp. body corformation and thick tailtube to indicate this koi with future
Jumbo size potential. Please correct me if I am wrong, becos' certain breeder's koi will growth in length
first for the beginning few years before their body bulk in volume in the later years.

Hi needucho,

I wouldn't be hasty calling the traditional showa a male. In fact, looking at its pectoral fin I'll say there is a good chance it could be a female. There are a few points I would like to bring up with regards to this koi.

1. Granted the traditonal showa has a body relatively thinner than the kindai, but take a good look at its head structure. It is decently broad and long, but followed by a lean back that appears shrunk after the pectoral region. This koi isn't genetically thin, it is undernourished for a prolong period that has inevitably affected its growth and hence its conformation is compromised.

2. Slow growing koi tend to hold their colours better as their scales do not stretch as fast. This is quite obvious from the traditional showa case.. its sumi is tightly packed and hiban is thick. As mentioned above the traditional showa looks underfed, I wouldn't be surprised its colour appears stronger.

Personally, I would choose the traditional showa to experiment with its growth and development. IMHO, the kindai while appearing better built, has visibly limited "development" potential. However, I wouldn't pay USD2,907 for this traditonal showa... for this kind of price you should be getting a tosai of higher quality than these 2.

Cheers,
Dennis

there must see something that we do not see or will not see in the traditional showa. poeple that bid for that koi and bought it must see a potential GC in what he has, definitely, biding price slowly goes up means there is some people agree with him. Just that i thing i do not have enough vision to see it 4, 5 years down the road. I tell you, the more you know, seem like the more you do not know.

Hi Samantha,

If you knew the successful owner for that Showa, please keep us posted on its development.
Would definately like to know whether the koi will still has that potential GC quality in a year or two.

Wishing you " A Merry Christmas and A Happy Koi filled New Year".

Best Regards,
Thiam Hwa
