Do all the parent is kohaku and sanke or you do have other type of koi as parent? some fry have black on their back like asagi.... just guessing
Father: Shusui. Mother: Platinum doitsu and showa. what am I going to get?

Philippines
the farm is down south of Manila

the parent of the frys is a ki matsuba i purchased from Mr. Hirasawa Seitaro
through kenji Tani of the Tani Fish Farm in Narita.
The female ki matsuba is sired by a kujaku bred by Oofuchi
(BEST KUJAKU 45cm category-2002 All Japan Koi Show, Ryutsu Center, Tokyo Japan)
loaned from Mr. Mikee Romero.
Three more male kujakus i used as additional male parent that I personally selected
from the Marudoh Koi farm with Marudoh's guidance

Dreamkoi,

Great job on your breeding! The way Tom is culling is doing it like the japanese way! Are the big ones the parents or the locally bred Kois?

I can't speak for dreamkoi, but at least 1/2 of my fry that started out looking yellow, orange, and even platinum turned kohaku one step at a timeSmile. A few of the bekko and utsuri looking younglings began developing hi markings and began looking like sanke and showaSmileSmile. That is why culling starts with deformities only and color patterns are allowed time to develop in the rest.

thanks pedro

as aragorn said this is a lot of work, but we're happy with the results.
the gosankes are harder ( if not impossible ) to produce, i mean the finer gosankes!

the kohakus and the showas will be harvested on another occassion
these fingerlings i posted came from a ki matsuba and kujaku parents

i agree larz1

thats why when one time in Japan i asked Gonchang of the Gonjiro koi farm (a senior koi judge for the All Japan Shinkokai)
on some pointers regarding how to breed a better kohaku.....he replied by saying that he finds it also difficult to produce kohakus too although the red and whites are easiest to make

I noticed several good size matsuba among the fry so your parentage seems to have paid offWink. I also noticed Tancho, several 2-3&4 step kohaku and one possible inazumaSmile. I look forward to seeing more from your next pull and wish you great successSly.

Re: [dreamkoi] A day at my mudpond [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi all,
greetings to Dreamkoi and his son Tom from Spain!
wonderful work, thanks a lot for sharing all these exciting pictures.
Nice Koi and beautiful views!
Could you please give some details of your mud ponds? I would like to know the approximate size and depth, as well as what kind of water parameters you have there.
I couldn't see any aeration device in your mud pond, do you use any kind of aeration system? Neither I appreciate any device to protect the fry against predatory birds, Isn't it an issue for you in Philippines?
I'm also curious about your stocking rates and your culling schedule.
I'm just a Koi hobbyist and amateur breeder, this was my third breeding season but I do that just for the sake of learning. Every year I only keep just a few tosai and give away the rest to friends.
All the best,

Greetings Diego

my mudpond depth averages 1 mtr deep, some deeper, some shallower.
we just took off the predator protector and just replaced them with better new ones.
no aeration since our stocking rate is low.
thanks for posting
and all the best to your breeding
