Are the Fry eating egg yolk? Need help from the pro's! Can't Post

I didnt think about it..but should have taken a pic to ask this ?....
My little fry are swimming around like crazy! My shrimp havent hatched as of yet..but should by tomorrow..so I am feeding them small amounts of egg yolk...it seems that some swim out to check it out..and others just keep swimming or hand on the sides...how do I know if they are eating? Kinda scared they are hungry and they are not eating Unsure
I went up to another waterfall we have in the front yard..we havent done anything with it this year..and took out two large cups of green water with a bit of algey in it, when doing the water change today thought that might be better for them? I have an air stone in a plastic sealed cup with a couple of bio balls in it too...who knows why I did this..lol..how it wont hurt them either...
Thank you!
Carla

Dear carla1119

Your fish are still very young yet if i'm not mistaken. They should be ok for a couple of days, feeding on their own egg sacks the next stage is inflosora (i bet i spelled that wrong again), these are microscopic thingys floating in the water.

Egg yokes are fed by squeezing it through a cloth. Don't give them much as it soon polutes the water.

If your babys are active and swimming about you can bet they are eating something.

Try crushing a lettuce leaf putting it in a jar, filling the jar with boilng water from the kettle and leave it in direct sunlight for 2 days. This will produce loads of inflosora. You could have a production line going but don't give them it if it's more than 2 days old.

If your hatchery is outside you will get alot of natual bugs and small flys in the water. you might not even have to feed them depending on the surface area.

I think I'm at this stage inflosora my fry's are floating in the water..looks to be swimming in the middle and than to the sides and hanging on the walls also..

"Egg yokes are fed by squeezing it through a cloth. Don't give them much as it soon polutes the water. " Yikes...thru a towel...hmmm how does that work..they are boiled right?
Unsure I fed them yesterday and today and yes I see some at the bottom...wondering how I will ever get this out , without removing some fry's also...

I'm going to start the lettuce leaf in a jar tonight...and keep going with it each night in a row so I can cont to feed them..or is there enough for a couple of days? How long will they need to be feed like this? My Brim Shrimp are still looking like eggs Frown it has been almost 48 hours now and I should see something?
Sorry for all the questions..I 'm a very nervous Mother...

Thanks for your help!
Carla

Dear carla1119

http://www.caudata.org/daphnia/

http://ng.netgate.net/~jlatham/Hatch.html

Sorry about the web sites first just that i have been trying to respond and every time i look for a web page i loose all the text i have been typing for the last couple of hours....

sorry about the ambiguous cloth eggs thingy. yes boiled eggs squeezed through a fine muslim cloth or stocking.

You could always sythone the water from the bottom of your hatchery into a bucket, the babys should avoid it as part of the natural survial instinct. If they don't you may have to net them back..

The first web page is about daphnia if you can find a safe source of them they are alot better than brine shrimp.

The second webpage is a home made hatchery. I'm not sure what kind you are using so i thought it might be useful..

Also you might whant to check out some posts from KoiQueen as she is going through her first babyboom also, and most of this has been covered.

But don't hesitate if you have any problems.

Personaly i feel that if i can help in anyway to the continued welfare of peoples fish then apart of me is with those fish....

good luck with them

Brine shrimp take several days so keep the green water going. If they were in a natural pond or lake that is mainly what they would be eating. The airstone with the bioballs is a very good move. Better if the bioballs came from your mature filter system so they will start working immediately. Some floating plants like water hyacinth are good too as they provide shelter, consume nitrates, and give algae bits a place to stick. Their roots become a shaded feeding groundCool
