A yellow ogon and a tancho sanke would be a cool breed, I wonder if anyone has tried that.
I have always wanted to be a yamabuki with a tancho Smile

There is know real way to answer this question Quinton. The pairing of different types of koi is not an exact science. What most people do is try different pairs
and document the results for future reference. Some will tell u that if u are trying to produce a particular type of koi like kohaku, then your best bet is to breed kohaku to kohaku. This however does not always hold true.

Throw some pairs together and see what u end up with. Eighty percent of the fun is watching to see what developes! I hope that u have studied and researched the whole spawning process though. It is not all fun and games and u can end up with a real mess really fast if u are not prepared.

When u get a chance, update your personal file so we know who u are and where u are from.

Good luck, KieferSly

Hi
Thanks for this. I was thinking using the Kimonryu female with the Ogon and White Ginrin male. About the breeding details, any suggestion where I can get some detailed info??

Cheers

Quinton

I do most of my research reading past forum posts, They are full of info regarding everything including spawning. I would also reccomend surfing the web. Lots of great info out there. It is also very important that u understand basic koi care and water quality control before even considering trying to spawn your koi.
Having said that, after u get a basic understanding of the mechanics of spawning koi and raising fry, start asking direct questions about the subject to help fine tune your research.

DONT RUSH!!!!!! is the very best advise that I can give u. This hobby is a lifetime of experiences that is much more rewarding than most. Take your time so that u can enjoy the rideWink

Good luck, KieferCool

I'm very much agree with Kiefer, take your time and think about what is the next step to raise the fry and how to save them. It's a lot of work ,fun and frustration.I said frustration coz I've been there. 1st and 2nd attempt of spawning failed.Anyway, accidentally result of yamabuki ogon and sanke came out 90% black koi,and the rest rubbish.Just like kiefer said, experiment is the best thing to do and lots of patience. good luck and have some funWinkWinkWink

Apparently a Yamabuki Ogon with a Shusui could create a Midorigoi :)

http://www.koi.com.my/cgi-bin/koiforum/gforum.cgi?post=5840;search_string=midori;

Quoting Tan Beng Teck:
"Midorigoi - It is a beautiful yellowish green koi of the doitsu family. It was bred by Mr. Tadao Yoshioka of Uozu city in 1965, a male Shusui being mated with the Yamabuki-Ogon."

Mature age Midorigoi

Thank you KoiGuy! That fish is sweeeet! I hope I can breed my Yamabuki with one of my Shusui!

P.S. What would a yamabuki plus a platinum ogon make?
