Breeding Combos Can't Post
Hi

If a Tancho Showa is bred with a Sanke what will the offspring come out as? (Yes, I know they'll be koi! But what type of koi?!! Tongue)

Does anyone have a link to other combinations of breeding koi, just to show if one type will dominate over another?

You will get a varity of all koiWink Kohaku to Kohaku will give you the most of the same type.

When you say 'all koi' what types are you referring to, please?

Surely, you couldn't get a shusui or a hi utsuri from those parents? Or could you?

Believe me when spawn koi you can come up with both, plus all types. The reason I say this is because koi dont breed true.Wink

Gouri,

Mostly the frys will be Tancho Showa and Sanke.
Rarely it will became other kinds,only if the parents
have a very mixed bloodline................................Wink

Gouri...

Pure bloodline koi will give rise to only their own type.......Like Japanese Imports with proper bloodlines will not make fry of other types.....Tongue

Most local koi....this may be the case because they are most likely not pure blood Kohaku or Sanke......etcSmile

Sorry but maybe I should say this again. I am breeding koi in four large ponds and have checked this subject out for some time now. KOI DO NOT BREED TRUE even with pure bloodlines. Any two koi of the same type will give you a different variety of koi. The only type of koi that come even close to breeding true is Kohaku, and still then you will have a mix.

Maybe I can find some good info on breeding koi types and post for you. I spawned a pair of momotaro kohaku this past spring and got all types. The pair is pictured on my icon. These two koi are pure japaness bloodlines.Wink

Yep , Im sure. When I say types of koi what I mean is I have a lot of different koi types. But since I was going to start spawning pairs to sell . I had to do some home work. I still dont know all there is to know but I have learned from research and spawning my first momo spawn that they are right, koi dont spawn true. You get a mix even with good bloodlinesWink

hi i breed a orange ogon butterfly with a aka bekka [red with black markings} and all i got was the same, nothing but, all match parents. i was hoping something different would show up,but didn,t had hundreds of them. there was a couple that seem to be mostly black, and a couple of the orange that have a round black spot on top near the head, i guess you call these mutts. i had no deformities, wound up with about 150, building new pond much bigger.
