Eggs - just how long? Can't Post

My koi spawned! Smile i removedthe eggs from the pond and placed them into a indoor aquarium full of the pond water. that was 16 days ago today, but they still havent hatch!? Unsure i just wondered why its taking so long for them to hatch? the eggs can't be dead because there are no visible signs of rotting etc.

any comments would be welcome, Chris

Hello Chris.

I have never heard of eggs remaining viable for this length of time. Am not sure if this is possible. What is water temp in aquarium?

Would suggest that u raise temp to 73 degrees F. and see what happens.
Very odd...Eggs should have either hatched or begun to decompose by now.
These are the things that make one go HMMMMMM?

yea isnt it just! i will raise the temperature and keep you posted on any news. i thought another possibility maybe that these eggs are not in fact koi eggs but other eggs that look similar? either snail or something?

HI Chris

Koi eggs are small circles while snail eggs looks like jelly. If the eggs looks opaque then they are already rotten. If it is still transparent then it is still good but i dont think it can last that long though. Eggs should hatch around the third and fourth day. I didnt have the pleasure of this tough coz all the eggs of my koi didnt hatched, it was such a waste. My breeding tank was indoor, next time i'll construct it outdoor so that it can be exposed to the sun.

thank you!

they still have not hatched, so i think a clean out will be required! it is such a shame, waiting until next years spawn to arrive now! lol
