Female behavior after spawning Can't Post
I just bought the most expensive showa 2 days ago. Yesterday it spawned with my other fish and was acting just fine afterwards for several hours. This morning she is obviously got a problem she is just sitting at the bottom and not swimming around much. The boys are swimming around just fine. I wonder if she got hurt in the spawning , is she tired from spawning , they chased her a long time yesterday.
I really worried about spending THAT much money on a fish, NOW im really worried. Any info would be great.

Mary Ellen,
Net her right away and put her on a separate tank with pond water and threat it with .3% salt for at least 24 hours.She is exhausted from spawning and bumping for a long time. Check your pond water and replace 50 % of water if they spawned in your main pond.Your facing at high ammonia right now.

Thank you for your response,
I did a 50% water change, my ammonia was high, and she is a happy little fish again thank goodness! Why does the ammonia go up with spawning?

Hi Mary Ellen, Good for you and for your koi.Am glad you took care of that problem right away.
One reason the ammonia go up, due to the milt release by the male koi.It contaminate the water real quick.Did you collect the eggs ? Are you planning to raise the babies?

Yes I collected some of the eggs that I could. We have a 50 gallon tub aerated for them. I will better prepare next time, but we are hoping for a couple of survivors :) It is exciting!
