Hi guys, My new Showa is in heat and the males are chasing her all over the place and thrashing her around especially the big Hoshikin Kohaku. I am worried about injury to the Showa and I dont want her to spawn in the pond. My 4ftx3ftx2.5ft Q-tank is too small to house both male and female to encourage spawning. The Dealer/breeder advise that I shud put in 10gm of Masoten to my pond of 25ton water to mask the scent and to cool down the males... bloody males! I am very apprehensive but he has ten of years breeding kois.

Uncanny coincidence, This morning we decided to dose 25ml per ton of malachite green to the pond. I was worried that if the showa spawned, the rest of the females will also spawn! And that will be a disaster.

Just noticed your posting. Hv heard of malachite green being used but was concerned that dosage 25ml to 1 ton seem high, usually meant for short term bath and not in the pond. Perhaps I am kiasu, kaisi when come to medicine.

lhchng, I used the Interpet anti bacterial formulation which is a weaker solution. Have used this before, to treat the pond and no porblems so far. The kohaku is still at it though but the others are not and so that's a relieve. Thks for your concern.
