Fry And Flashing Can't Post

I have some fry that were hatched in Begginning of Sept. The fry are now in a 150 gallon stock tank with some duck weed and water lettuce they have had since they were born. I have seen 2 fry flash and netted 1 last night and he looked fine but still flashed. Can I use salt and how much? If needed what meds can you use on very young fry?

Hi! Marie,

Salt would be a good first option. Try to bring the salt level up slowly to 0.5 - 0.6%. Keep those salt level for about a week and change water partially to remove the salt.

BTW. I wouldnt get too paranoid about a little flashing unless it gets to be a problem.

Before u get worked up, I can tell u that my fry at that stage would flash the bottom all of the time to stir up bits of food and bugs. Looked just like flashing but after watching for a while I realized that they were simply swirling the bottom to stir up food bits. Am not saying that u dont have a problem, but watch them closly and see if they dont turn around and look for food after they have made flash.

I dont think you have anything to worry about as I have seen this also in my fry. I became all alarmed that my koi had flucks and found out after reading a book on young koi that they flash after eating to clean their bodys. I calmed down after I noticed that they only done this after eating. Just keep an eye on them and if they do this all the time then you may have a problem.Smile
