Fry In Mud Ponds Can't Post

I am currently raising some fry that are about 2 - 3 days old. I have read that to improve growth and colour you should put them in a mud pond. I need some info on these though. How do I create one? Just dig a big hole about 3ft deep? How would I fill it with water and how would it keep oxygenated, also what if I don't have clay soil. Is there any other way I can hold water naturally? Can someone please give me all the details I will need on creating a mud pond?

Thanks
