Fry has lost back fin :( Can't Post
Hi,
I had a baby fry that seemed to have been trying to die since yesterday.....so, I took him out w/ a net and looked at him and he is still alive yet his back fin is gone causing him to stay upside down...will he grow back his fin? Or should I put him out of his misery? Frown and if so, what is a humane way to let him go to fish heaven? Frown Never seen anything like it!

Hi Mookey,
Small koi and fry can heal their missing fins. Last year, I had a 3-4 inch shiro that lost a pectoral fin. It grew back in a month with good water conditions. If you decide to put the fish down, water with ice cubes are the best.

Hi, thanks for the reply..I hate to put him down, if he could grow back his back part I had rather keep him..thanks for the advice. what if I put him in an aquarium? So that he will be away from the other fish, for he could not defend himself....he is nose down..and still alive

Hi,
Keep the water parameters ideal, heat the water to around 72-75 F and it should have a better chance.

Thanks for the suggestions..but, I decided to put the baby fry down...very hard to do....Frown Did the ice water thing. I feel like I did the right thing...now, can you see me culling babies? I don't think so..I am too soft hearted. Smile
