Our 3-year old female appears to be dying after spawning. We brought her and the two males inside to a spawning tank when they began spawning this morning. The males appear to have stopped participating too soon (these 3 spawned together successfully last year) and she was swimming around dropping eggs for hours. Then she suddenly started flashing all over the tank, as if she were trying to rid herself of the excess eggs. She now appears to be dying. Any suggestions? She's our favorite!

im really sorry if u lost your friend moongodess..
koi was really stressed at that time so it would be very difficult to calm her without the use of sedatives.. her internal organs might be damaged too..
but you have the offspring, so she was still a blessing.. until other kois who die from different reasons...

Oh! thats so sad! I hope my koi wouldn't turn out like that! You are very lucky that your fries survived! Was the koi that died a big one and how old was it? It may have been too young or something. maybe its not healthy enough. my koi never died. ---------------------------------------------------------

She was three and both males two years old. They spawned successfully last year, but I think the problem is that the males aren't properly "with the program." They did not properly fertilize the eggs our other female laid, either, so no fry for us this year. Last year's fry are 6-8 inches now and most look like their mom, lucky for us ;)
