HOLDING ONTO EGGS? Can't Post

hI FOLKS. MY INSIDE KARAWAKE DECIDED TO SPAWN WITHOUT A MALE. THE KOI THAT I KNOW ARE MALES ARE OUTSIDE IN THE COLD 40 DEGREES. MY QUESTION IS THIS: CAN EGGS BE HELD ONTO FOR VERY LONG TO WAIT FOR A MALE TO FERTILIZE THEM? I WOULD HAVE LOVED TO HAVE HAD SOME LITTLE ONES FROM HER. MAY HAVE TO WAIT UNTIL LATER SPAWNING?

DUMB QUESTION I KNOW, BUT HAVE TO ASK IT.

I believe the viability is less than 120 seconds between sperm and egg meeting.

Hello, there is a small hole that is open in the egg when it is laid, and this opening is where the sperm must go in, and this hole will close within a minute or so, after that the eggs can not be fertilized!

Hey, I guess I could have been more descriptive!! But what calls my attention is why did she release eggs if she is alone??? Since egg release is prompted by the presence of a male stimulation! My question is, Was she alone , or alone with other FEMALES??? One of those FEMALES may have been a young male.

Unsure Well.. she didn't have a male. Bless her heart, I've done the same thing! Thanks for all the info. It was real helpful. I had to get the eggs out of the tank fast, it was pretty loaded. The house smelled for two days. She goes in the pond this weekend! cuda
