Are you sure? I thought all the fry outside were dead but I saw about 10. They have yellowed up while the fry indoors have not. they are bigger than the ones inside even when I have not fed them. The green water outside is good for them

Yep Im sure, I drained all the water today and did not see the first one. We had several nights down in the 30,s and I think that is what got them, still to young to stand the temps.

Sorry to hear that. Perhaps a fall spawn will happen for you and maybe then it will be planned.

Yes trying to get the ponds full of water so I can put some of my parent stock in the ponds. I am going to try and get a fall spawn and put up a greenhouse if I can so they will grow over the winter. I hope I dont have to use much heat in the house so I can keep the cost of the koi down. I will do ok once I get set up to raise them, just right now I cant get Jack to give me the space in the yard to get things going. I have plenty of time before fall spawn and can get the pipe work done so I can fill ponds faster, I just have to wait untill the weekend to get anything done. Him and his parent have a large place with a couple of big ponds and we are out their every weekend just about cutting grass and weed eating, my place comes last as we have to stay on top of the other place so it does not get out of hand, the grass cutting is not so bad as Jack cuts it with one of the 0 turn commerical lawn mowers, but the weedeating, sometimes I want to scream.

Ok, the fry are a little over 4 weeks old. Starting the second week, I slowly moved some of the fry once every week from the indoor tank to a 500 gallon show tank. They are mostly yellow and white. This was some of the fry I moved a few days ago. There are about 100+ fry in the show tank now. I feed them ground up pellets 4 times a day as well as putting some water fleas in their water twice a day.

I cant wait to see how these fry turn out. They look like they are growing well and are good size. Keep them feed good and keep us posted. Remember to hand feed them some to so they will be good and friendly, good luck with the little ones.

I just checked the holding pond. Some have grown to 1 inch, while others are still working on that. I see sumi coming out now on the yellow fry. Do yellow turn orange or red later on?

I'll have to see how they turn out. Most probably will list on ebay or craigslist. :) At least, I dont feed them every two hours anymore with newly hatched brine shrimp. That was rough

Blue from the parents that spawned I think you need to wait a couple more months before you start to cull. Since you dont have that many fry hold on to all of them as long as you can so you can see how they turn out. I am thinking that these fry will be Kujaku and it takes a while form what I have been told before you can tell much about them. Also the mass spawn from last year, I keep most of them and the ugly koi are turning out fair, since you dont have a large spawn and no culling experience hold on to them and see how they turn out if you can.

At 6 weeks old [In reply to] Can't Post

koifishgirl,
here are new pics. I took lots but only 3 were decent. These were the bigger guys in the 175 gallon pond, the smaller ones need to catch up, they are in the 600 gallon show tank. Bigger ones are 1.5 inches. I think I might get one or two tanchos. Note the black round circle on a few.

i dont think you should cull any of them, you can get some money out of them when they are older.
