Hi,
How many did you start off with? Some fry dying off is normal, survival of the fittest. Are you water parameters in check?

Make sure the temp is ok in the pool that you have the fry in and make sure the ammonia is not to high. Are you doing regular water changes, without a good establish filter you need to make sure you have plenty of fresh water, make sure you are using dechlorinated water, this is something that you need to do every day or the ammonia will spike and kill the fry. If you have well water that is the best just let it sit and warm up to close to the same temp in current fry pond. Do you have any plants in the fry pond with the fry?

Hi,
Yes, I have plants in the pool. How many gallons approx do I need to change daily? I have city water. 250 gallon kiddie pool/2 small pumps to move the water.
thanks

Why dont you try and recirculate the water from the main pond into the kiddie pool and back to the main pond so the water can run through the established filter and then you wont have to change water everyday and this will be the best for the fry. Also what are you feeding the fry? You may not be feeding enough and the fry are starving. You can put a nylon stocking on the pump to keep the fry from being sucked in the pump. My next spawn this is what I am going to do as the filter will help take care of the ammonia spikes.

Hi,
I started feeding the baby fry crushed up (fine) flake food...I expect they are getting enough to eat, or I have fed them too much. I don't mind the water changes...and hopefully I can save quite a few of the babies. I think what I'm going to do is put a stocking over a good pump/filter and run that to circulate the water...I did a almost a 50% water change this morning w/declorated water that has set a couple of days...so, maybe I won't loose anymore..hopefully. Will keep you posted..thanks again

Hi,
Update of my babies. I have not found anymore dead babies...don't know if it had anything to do with the 50% water change this morning, being that soon...shall see by tomorrow morning and will do another water change. I roughly counted my baby fry's and I have about 73 babies.
