Hi Monique
I think if you thumb thru most books written on kois and the useful threads in this forum, the answer to your question may vary from 16 - 26 deg cel. Female kois that are ready to spawn can be induced or triggered to spawn when there is a temperature or environmental change. If you intend to breed kois, move the female together with 2 good males (preferably the macho type) to a FG tank, make some spawning ropes to hang inside and you may find the mating ritual starting within 24 hours - its quite a delightful sight to watch! Good luck!

Thanks Micky for your information. We went out yesterday and got a 10 gal tank with a filter and all the stuff needed. It's been running with water all night lastnight and right now. This weekend I will take out the females that are ready to spawn and put them with the males into the tank and like the fun start.Laugh Im game for the upcomming fry because this is my first time with babies.

Thanks again and have a nice day.

Monique,
I will suggest that get a little bit bigger spawning tank.Koi spawning into 10 gallon tank is not good for your female koi. She's going to be exhausted or possiby going bye bye after spawning.Get the portable swimming pool, the size is about 8' in diameter and and 16"in height. You can buy those at are Toys R Us.and they are cheap.don.t forget to put air pump for oxygen.Use the 10 gallon tank for the babies. What part of N. Calif are you? I'm from the Bay area. Good luck for spawning.

Re: [Gabriele] I need some information please [In reply to] Can't Post

My female koi are not very big, 6" in length. I do not have a very big pond. The people that use to live at the house my b/f and I are living in now, they didnt want the pond. Im not forsure how long the fish have been in the pond, but I do know that I have a couple of females looking like they are ready to spwan.

We have thought about the swimming pool idea but we have 2 wolf mix dogs and they like to get into the water. Another thing is both my b/f and I we work in Sacramento but live in Marysville, the pool idea was out of the picture.

I'll give the 10 gallon tank a try being this is my first time with Koi and upcomming fry. Wish me luck.

Thanks!

Monique,
No harm giving it a shot. I have a FG tank 5'x3'x2.5' which I use specially for koi breeding, the latest lot is just into the 5th week and some of the fries are already 3inches, I think hobbist call them "Tobies". A lot of fun but a lot of work too! Remember to separate the Tobies after the 2nd week. I did not do this so many smaller ones got eaten up. Good luck!
Regards, Micky
