Hey Joanne! How U be? Your growth rate is actually very good. The average gowth rate of koi (in the optimal conditioned pond) is about 2 centimeters per month, which is about 2". I think I would be somewhat terrified if I saw a koi grow 4" in one month and throw that sucker in the bay. If a koi grew 4 inches a month, just think how big that thing would be in only One year. 48 inches! Lookout Jaws! That koi would be a JUMBO in 7 months! I forgot the question Must be old age Oh yeah! Of course your plain colored (ie: Ogons) fish will show up first, generally within the 1st month, then the ones with sumi patterns and other colors follow two or three weeks later. The Kohaku is a late developer, and it can be very deceiving because you think it's just a white fish. Kohakus are also the slowest growers, in addition to being the last ones to show colors and patterns. It not uncommon to see a Kohaku just developing after they're over 2" or 3" long. They are also the weakest fish at the beginning, and easily subject to fading hi, especially if the Hi shows up suddenly. In the other forum I showed you pictures of my little home bred Kohaku. I have two of them and that was exactly what happend. I was ready to cull them out but they were too hard to catch in the pond, so I left them. Surprise, Surprise! Take Care Best Regards Bran A Koi Pond is never FINISHED, it's always subject to improvement. Drives the Spouse Crazy!
