Koi Color Can't Post

I recently noticed that my pond was full of baby Koi. They are about 1 1/2 to 2 inches long. All the baby Koi are Grey in Color. I guess my question is does the color come later or will they stay that color. The Male and Female are not grey.

Hey Kent

Congratulations for being the proud parent of a brood of baby kois!Smile Don't worry about the colours now. Wait till you see them transform into kohakus, sankes, showas etc! It will be a wonderful sight to see!

Good luck!

Now I am excited.Sly Thank you so much for your reply. I had just added a UV light to my filter system which had amazing results. The water was crystal clear in a matter of days and what to my wonder eyes should appear but hundreds of baby Koi. I have a 1600 gal. pond with the deepest area being 5 feet. It gets very cold here in Illinois and the depth insures that my Koi make it through the winter. These little baby Koi sure have enriched my pond enjoyment. What a great experience for my wife and I.

Thanks again for your reply

Congratulation Kent,

I am sure you will enjoy watching your baby kois grow as we did too. My

baby kois are now 10 months old. I have at least 40 of them. Mostly they

were black and gray and after a couple of months they start changing colors.

Cheers,

Choy

Hi, GabrieleSly

Congratulation!!!.

Being a proud owner of baby kois is something I am hoping to be one day. However, my curiosity is how are u going to deal with them ( 1500 - 2000 in number ) in term of pond space and foods. Could it be the general norm that owner may sell them for a handsome gain subsequently.

Also depending on which location one is in, your baby kois may grow up to be different from the quality of the parent kois in the pond. This may actually dilute the quality of the pond population. I would be interested to hear from the view of those who has this experience .

Many thanksSly
