Koi Egg Questions...
|
Can't Post

Greetings fellow ponders; When koi spawn do they always spread eggs all over the pond? I’ve found a pile of yellowish eggs laying on the bottom of our backyard pond twice over the past month. In addition to our precious koi, our backyard pond is also home to three adult bullhead catfish. I’m wondering whether the eggs I found were from the catfish and not from our koi. The eggs seemed bigger than koi eggs I’ve seen in pictures and I never observed any spawning behavior in my koi. Basically the eggs were all bunched together near the bottom of the pond. It is my understanding that when koi spawn they spread eggs everywhere, especially in floating plants. These eggs were resting in a pile on the pond bottom; they weren’t spread around. On both occasions I removed the eggs from the pond, but I don’t think they were fertile because they were covered with fungus within a few days and were promptly disposed of. I took a few pictures of the eggs, which I will post later. Do any of you have experience with koi laying eggs in a pile, rather than spread around the pond? I’m starting to think the eggs I found were from my catfish and not my koi. Thanks! Joseph http://www.josephandgabby.com/pond
