MOM Can't Post

I just looked up a site with names of different kind of Koi. I believe the mother is a Asagi. But, they didn't have many on there. I believe one daddy is white with black & orange. And the onther daddy is black with I believe it's orange on on his tummy.

Does anyone have any good websites that decribe all the different Koi?

Thanks a million!

Dear gracie

MOM Asagi is a fish with blue over the lateral line and red under it this is one of the first colour veriations they ever produced Asagi have pine scales or matsuba scaling if it has doisu scaling like just a few large scales over the dorsal area and along the lateral line it called a shushi. The black one with orange belly are called karasugoi or crow koi, these are very nice fish IMHO.

The white black and orange could well be a sanke or a showa depends on the black (sumi) if the black is on the head and in the fins it's a Showa as showas are black fish with white and red and sankes are white fish with black and red markings.

Re: [zoul] MOM [In reply to] Can't Post

Mom is definitely Asagi. She is the biggest one of all 5. From what my mother has told me, she is about a year older then the rest. I'll go out and check what I think the other are. MY guesses according to chart.

That Daphnia is hard. I've done the lettuce thing, so I'm assuming you just pour in the water from the lettuce project? Sun finally came out 2day.

So far, I've been able to spot 2 dead. I'm very overwhelmed! I don't want any to die.

Anyone want to come over and cull?

And those brine are a pain in the butt to hatch. But I guess wont REALLY need those for another couple days.

Dear gracie

Unfortunatley you will have a few deaths. Survival of the fittest and all that darwin stuff.

If you lived in england i would gladly share my daphnia with you. But i bet you don't. Frown

Still Next year you should have found a place that dose them, and you can do the experiment of taking pics of this years and comparing them with the ones you raise next your. If you keep a log of water changes feeding ect you can compare that and see whats best.

Never forget the best thing we have for fish keeping is right between our ears.

OKAY! I think I'm close to what they are by about 90%.

Mom - Asagi (no question in my mind) about 5/6yrs

Dad - Asagi (but with darker blue/black on his back and a white head. Has little orange on him) 4/5yrs

Dad - Showa/sanke (markings are a little hard for me to really tell) I would lean showa. 4/5yrs

Dad - Crow 4/5yrs

Female - Sanke (looking at them for so long now, I'm almost positive it's a girl) And I noticed she's a little on the possible prego side. 4/5yrs

NEWEST - That I brought home the night before we ended up with 1000 fry!

Beni Kikokurya
Doitsu Plat. Ogon
Doitsu Yanabuk Ogon
all about 4-5 inches long!

Zoul!

Actually I am in what is usually Sunny CA!

Ahhhhhhhh.........Just came to me, our team almost and I mean ALMOST kept you guys without a goal this week! But, Mr. Hot Beckman had to bend it like he does! My father is from Ecuador and we where very proud one to make it, but 2 to get as far as we did. Congrats on the win!

Closet I get to England is Geneva, Switz. My sister lives there. maybe you'll have to throw me some over when I'm in Europe!

Enough of that, what I wanted to ask you is.

What is that layer of crap building up on the plants where the eggs where? It's greyish, but loks like it's got little little ar bubbles in it. Don't know If we should remove it, or if it's some kind of algea.

last we checked water, all levels checked out good.

Ok I'll tell you what it is ....... Sick bags at the ready........

You got your sick bag ready ???? this is gonna make you chuck your cookies so you better get your self a bag......

It's old koi sperm and vaganal fluid from your kois Not to make you feel ill or anything but it will clear up on it's own in a week or so maybe 3 weeks from spawning.

Re: [Gracie] MOM [In reply to] Can't Post

Dear Gracie

In a way they do gracie in a way.

When koi spawn you will find an increase in ammonia, This spike in the ammonia get's broken down into nitrites and then into nitrates. As carp usualy breed in slow moving water this takes place fairly close to where they lay the eggs, When the eggs hatch they should have a plentyfull supply of inflosora. Care of their parents excess boby fluid and the nitofication system.

I hope that makes sence.
