Mohantaro Farm - koi breeding exp. Can't Post

Hello there!

It gives me immense pleasure to share my breeding experience with you.

I started rearing koi in or around 1990. Eversince, I started it was firmly implanted in my mind that local Malaysian kois are not comparable with the Japanese counter - part. Due to this mistaken belief, I never ventured into breeding local kois.

However, in or around Jan 2004, I put in some saw - ferns (for decoration) into my 300 ton pond. All of a sudden the kois started spawning and bcos of my aforesaid dogmatic belief, I didn't bother to do anything. But as there were thousands of eggs, we tried to remove some of the eggs to a FT and an Aquarium. Some which hatched out by itself in the pond showed some potential. At this point of time, we decided to keep some to see further potential. When they were 15cm or so, we realised that we can produce good local kois if we had the right parent stock. Perhaps, it showed potential becos of my huge pond!

When we had a pond visit to our club President's house at Port Klang, I decided to give him 1 chagoi and another orchiba. At the point of time, the name 'Mohantaro' came about.

As I had a lot of yearlings, I decided to distribute to the shops and Mohantaro became Mohantaro Farm. Believe me you, I had sold a lot of kois and purchasers keep coming back looking for more.

Now we have decided to do breeding whenever time permits and to produce some excellent Malaysian kois. What is wrong in doing it? It is an extension of our hobby and lucrative too.

In the 1st Malaysian Young Koi Show, our local kois won a prize - we will post the picture later.

I gave Mr Ng some yearlings to be placed in the mud pond. During that time, I found 1 shiro utsuri which I luckily placed in my big pond. The photo is shown below. It has potential. The mother is from the Omosako Farm and a 1st prize winner at the Penang Show.See the photo below - 37cm.

My pond is under reno and after that I intend to concentrate on Kosanke. However find attached herewith our Maruten Sanke - 26cm.

I will post the photos of my two other winning kois at the 5th Koi Show at a later stage as I can only post 2 at one time.

Happy Koi Keeping.

Mohan.
