Mutant? Can't Post

I have had a large (10 in maybe) black fish in my pond for the past 2 years, and I didn't buy him. He has the barbels of a koi, but he is entirely black on his sides and top. On the bottom he is yellow. I have heard of crossbreeds between goldfish and koi that are black, but they aren't supposed to have barbels. What is this wierd fish that is living in my pond? I'll post a picture if someone can tell me how to.

it sounds like it might be a karasugoi or crow koi.

Nice fish.

Sorry about the poor quality, tell me if you need another picture of a specific part to be able to identify it.

From your description and the pix I'm pretty sure Zoul is right. Karasugoi, aka Crow.

Thanks, I've always wondered what it is because, none of the other fish look like him. Sometimes I'm kneeling to pick up some leaves that have fallen into the pond, and all of a sudden there's this big fish making sucking sounds about an inch away from my hand. Scares the crap out of me because its really hard to see.

How could you tell that it's a girl? That money sign you put in front of 200 is the euro right? How much does that equal in American dollars? I live in Indiana, USA.

It's the british pound sighn £

You can tell it's a she by the pectorial fins and body shape mainly although she is still quite young.

No honestly a 9 inch fish in my country would cost about £90 from a dealer so i would say that works out about $150.

But it's a good looking fish all the same.

Can you show me an example of a male koi and a female koi? What are the differences between the male and female pectoral fins? How large do most koi have to be to breed? HOw long do you think my crow koi is if she is about 9" long?

Wow, she is a nice fish. I have a butterfly karasu, but you can't tell he's got a gold belly unless you actually turn him over, her gold is actually highlighting her. And her eyes are just amazing.

Re: [maverickr413] Mutant? [In reply to] Can't Post

All right

Now see the hi utsuri thats a male Notice the pecs ? the other 2 in shot are female Note on the matusba the pecs. Nice and rounded same with the becko

Most koi to get a desent spawning need to be about 3 years old and over 12 inches.

But i have seen early spawnings although not so good as the fish haven't matured fully.

I think you ment how big will your koi grow.. Well alot depends how much room she has.

Again if we look at the pic the lemmon matsuba'a are 20 inches long i got them 3 years ago when they where 5 inches. The high utsuri i got when he was 14 inches and hes now 28.

But my pond is 42000 imperial gallons.
