Niigata Koi Breeders Can't Post

I found this site with a list of koi breeders in Niigata Japan. Each breeders page has an interesting article on the owner and even have links as to where their fish may be purchased. I found this site to be very interesting and informative, especially if you're a true Koi Kichi and someday plan on going to Japan. My wife and I spent several weeks touring Japan with Grant Fujita and it's an experience we'll never forget.

Hi BranMuffin, (written without prejudice)

Everything good about koi is linked back to Peter Waddington. His company and him have so many websites on, and his Nishigikoi magazines also contains almost similar articles on what is posted in this yamakoshi.com site. He understands the power of internet and infact u can buy from him through the internet - yes! I am talking about 1st/A Grade koi!

Another one is tategoi.com if I am not mistaken. Infiltration is another and koikichi... the list goes on.

But one thing - you will never find MOMOTARO koi articles mentioned in any of his websites. And I am sure he 'might' be disappointed cos for the 1st time, a Momotaro Sanke beats all his and his members entries in the BBKS Koi Contest this year taking The Grand Championship title away from him and his gang!

And if you are to read his magazines, you will realise to what level they are at! One thing for sure, he has got clients, members and friends whose has got heaps & heaps of money - to spend on the best koi - and where sky is the limit! (without prejudice). And when they go on a buying spree in Niigata Japan, they buy only the best from only the top breeders and they are the one that is listed in this website - yamakoshi.com - and these breeders are off course Peter Waddington's favourite breeders! No Momotaro - that's for sure!!!!!!!!!!

Quote: "Everything good about koi is linked back to Peter Waddington.

I remember when his group first started out. They had a koi show (in fact I still have that Rinko Article) and they had the ugliest fish around. However, inspite of what a lot of people think ... they don't have the best koi around. That's because you don't see the ZNA people in Japan advertise their stuff ... because they don't have too! And if they did, only the filthy rich could afford their stuff.

Infiltration just advertise more and like you said, they've taken advantage of the internet and being the only game in town, they were able to expand and make the ton of money that you're referring to. It's called advertising and PUBLIC (Public Relations) exposure. You yell long enough and expose yourself to as many people as you can and you too will become famous!

They're learned a lot through the years and most of what they say is true, BUT they can get a little obnoxious about it ... especially when they start claiming that they (BBKS) know more about Koi keeping than ZNA and those Japanese people who originated the Nishikigoi. I think that's going a little too far.

They can also get a little arrogant as evident with their NI forum in which they promptly slam anyone who dares to write something controversial to their thinking. That's why I don't participate there much. They claim to know ALL ... and god forbid that you disagree with them.

Don't get me wrong, I like their forum and I learn a few things now and then. But they do run off a lot of people from the constant bickering that goes on over there. A newbie would feel very uncomfortable there if they're not part of the group and don't know these people!

Best Regards

Hi BranMuffin,

Yep, what you have said are right.

And if I am not mistaken, when they first started off and that was somewhere in the late 70s, well, I think at that moment of time, most koi are ugly until these nishigikoi breeders started to crossbreed/cultivate and instill new bloodline that, today makes most of the koi beautiful.

I have seen some of the old Rinko magazines, the koi advertised there are expensive and are very beautiful and these are top grade koi advertised by the ZNA people in Japan.

Don't you notice that they write articles about only the koi breeders they deal with and how they over acclaim that they have the best amongst the best! Might be true - I don't know cos some of the pictures of koi I saw in their NI magazine are just quite 'ordinary' as compared with what you see in Rinko, but if you are to study properly, their choice of selections for koi are quite different from the choice of selections of the Japaneses and the Asians. I noticed they prefer more of the flowery type/the unique type of koi and also they keep on bragging that they can grow jumbos..... until along came our Momotaro Meada san.....

Cheers
