Hi BranMuffin, Yep, what you have said are right. And if I am not mistaken, when they first started off and that was somewhere in the late 70s, well, I think at that moment of time, most koi are ugly until these nishigikoi breeders started to crossbreed/cultivate and instill new bloodline that, today makes most of the koi beautiful. I have seen some of the old Rinko magazines, the koi advertised there are expensive and are very beautiful and these are top grade koi advertised by the ZNA people in Japan. Don't you notice that they write articles about only the koi breeders they deal with and how they over acclaim that they have the best amongst the best! Might be true - I don't know cos some of the pictures of koi I saw in their NI magazine are just quite 'ordinary' as compared with what you see in Rinko, but if you are to study properly, their choice of selections for koi are quite different from the choice of selections of the Japaneses and the Asians. I noticed they prefer more of the flowery type/the unique type of koi and also they keep on bragging that they can grow jumbos..... until along came our Momotaro Meada san..... Cheers Rogermoo, the local koibond
