Off-season inducement of breeding Can't Post

Most of what I find talks about the "late spring, early summer" breeding period. Is it possible to breed year round with proper temperature and/or light control? In other words, is the reason that Koi typicallly breed this time of year due to temperature sensitivity or diurnal sensitivity that may be artificially altered to get them to breed in "off" seasons? Any other factors that need to be controlled apart from standard cleanliness, etc.?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Re: [Masskoi] Off-season inducement of breeding [In reply to] Can't Post

I have read that there has been much research in this field with good success going on in isreal, and although these methods work, including induced ovulation, I am not a proponent of either. When one realizes a hatch rate of even 70 percent, u are looking at a possible yeild of 250 to 300 thousand fry. Multiply this by 3 or 4 good breeding pairs and the number of fry that can be produced in a season is stagering. The rest of the year would be spent careing for and culling the fry.

Unsless one would be raising koi as a staple food source, I just cannot understand the reason for year round production. Just my humble opinionCool
