Ok, so my fry are 12 weeks, now what? Can't Post

Hi, I have koi fry that are about 12 weeks now, and have been developing their color. They were bred from my friends champion sanke, and most turned out that way, but I have some muts of course. So my question is, I have been reering them indoors, and now that I think they are ok to survive outdoors at aroun 40 degree water, what do I do to aclimate them slowly, or should I just keep them indoors until spring? I want to put them outdoors in a 12 foot kiddie pool that I used for excess water hyacenths, and have some other babie fry I put in there already. So how do I aclimate them, and what do I do for filtration, or do I need any since they will be hybernating, just add a air stone? Thanks, pondgirl.Smile

Sound greatSmile If you can keep them inside for the winter you will get more growth if you have the room for them. Glad to hear that they are turning out good. If you must take them outside lower the water temp inside slow just about to the point that the water temp is in the pool that you plan on putting the fry. Bag them and let them float as to adjust them to the water temp in the pond. I would take a piece of filter from the main pond and start a filter for them. The matting from the main pond will jump start the filter for the fry pond.
If I were you I would leave them inside untill spring and get as much growth from them as I could and they can grow on untill next winter. Can you get us some pics of the koi? I would really like to see what they look like. I dont know about a kiddie pool begin a good place for the fry since most ponds are underground. You might want to check this out as I would hate for you to loose the fry due to the water temp not being safe.

Hi, thanks so much for the reply. Ya I haven't really thought about the kiddie pool not being underground. Your right, with the frost line and everything, I don if I'd work. I'll have to look into it. Oh, and I put 12 weeks, but their 8 weeks. It feels like longer since I'm feedin the little pigs so much. lol. I will try to figure out my digital camera so I can post some pix's online. Most of the fish are orange, black, and white. I have a few with red, but the orange is darkening so that's good. I'm sure it will turn to red at a later stage in life probably. The parents were like that so I'm sure they will be like that as well. I wish they would just be red now, but that aint happnin. I also have a lot of mixes as well, and some asagi, and bekko, tanch, yamabuki, and whatnot. Most are like the parents though. My friend just gave me half his fry's since he didn't have enough room. He's rearing his in his qt pond. It's neat seeing them change color, and size, and thier barbels became apparent about 2 weeks ago! I think there will only be abou 7 out of my brude that will be of any show prospect, most will be sold domestic. Thanks again, pondgirlSmile

Hi guys, I've been keepin the guys indoors. I have them in a 120 and and I put all the ones that look like they'll turn into something nice into it, and put the rest in my oudoor kiddie pool I talked about. So here's some pictures- Let me know what you think! They are around 9+ weeks now. I know they aren't pick of the litter. There probably mostly domestic, but pretty.-
