Question about due date

Im new to all this Koi stuff.  We cleand out the pond, fresh water and all that good stuff. I noticed 3 of the 6 smaller (about 6" in lengeth) are fat. One is really fat. I do not know how long the really fat female has been that way. What Im trying to ask is how would you know if she is ready to lay her eggs? This is my b/f and as well as for my self, the first time having a Koi pond. The pond is not a huge pond, just a normal size backyard pond.
Any imformation will help out alot.
