Small scale commercial breeding farm Can't Post

My last post subject title sounded boring, so I'll try again. Does anyone know where to find information or a good book on breeding koi, preferably small commercial scale breeding? I just bought a home with 5 acres and spring mountain water running along my property in Hawaii. I would like to specialize in breeding high-end koi from known Japanese lines and water plants too. I'm a marine biologist by profession and have commercially bred several types of marine fish, but I can't find anything on koi. I've raised koi for many years, and would now like to take the next step. I'd appreciate any help.

Just to let you know that you're not being ignored; I don't know of any books or magazines that gives detailed instructions on setting up comercial breeding ponds. Some books like Dr Kuroki's "Manual to Nishikigoi" briefly talks about home breeding, but that's about it.

I'm sure the reason being is that most professional breeders don't want to give away their secrets and have you compete with them. Selling, importing and exporting koi is a multi-billion dollar business. There used to be only a handful of professional breeders in Japan, now there are hundreds and people are doing it all over the world. That equates to competition and loss of revenue.

You may just have to talk to few people, go to Japan and visit some breeders and see what you can learn about their ponds, read books, go to several forums (i.e. Koi Bito) and pick up pieces here and there .. and then put it all together and take the risks.

Best Regards

Hello,
you need to have access to scientific literature (e.g. ISI Web of Science, etc). Still, there are few scientific papers available on Koi, and most of them deal with the recent viral disease.
However, you will find detailed info on breeding the common carp, and Koi belong to the same species so the methods are relevant for Koi breeding.
To my knowledge, most research have been carried out in Israel, Hungary and Poland.
There are technical papers, some of them edited by the FAO wich are available in PDF format.

You can have a look at some pictures on Koi breeding (amateur activity) at my web page:
