Sponge filter for fry ??? Can't Post

Hi all,
I need more info on sponge filters for fry. I just have two air stones in the tank with the fry. I am feeding them powdered flakes and crushed koi food. Also crushed Krill. That was suggested by the pond guy. That's what he feeds his fry and they are now much bigger than mine, and hatched about the same time. I found out I didn't feed them enough. He suggests4 times a day, with a larg quantity. Make sure he said you cover the top of the tank with food. He doesn't have any filtering system at all, only an air stone. So how do you keep your water okay. I don't want to have to change the water too drastically. That is why I wanted more info on what a sponge filter looks like. The pumps will suck up the fry. So please if one knows a link to a sponge filter please send me that link. Thanks Lynda

I am a user of air powered sponge filters and use them to raise my goldfish fry. I also add elodea (anacharis) to the fry tank to give them more food in addition to using to soak up excess nutrients.

There is a need to vacuum the bottom of the tank from time to time, and you can do this with an airline tube or similarly small tubing.

You will find a lot of information on sponge filters here:

I recommend precycling all sponge filters in a stocked pond before use in the fry tank. This way your filter is ready ASAP when you the fry are added into their tank (added during their stage as eggs). Never handle fry after hatching with a net. If needed, handle by scooping them with the water with a jar or container.
