Totally new to this. Would appreciate any input.. Can't Post

Last summer we put in a 6x6 pond with waterfall in our yard. We unfortunately lost the fish over a very harsh winter. This winter I am bringing them in in an aquarium just to be safe. This year we replaced fish with 3 koi and 5 comets( 4 regular and one sarasa comet). Surprise , surprise we have babies which we never had last year and really didn't expect. I have a lot of water hydrangea so didn't notice them until they were bigger and only 6 or 7 survived. Now they are about an inch and a half in size but I can't see any barbells for koi. I read the other sections on the goldish/koi breeding but how long does it usually take for the barbells to show? Their fins look more like koi than comets. I will try and post a picture. Also, they are all pretty dark colored although most of my fish were orange except for one calico colored koi. The frye are only starting to intermingle with the big fish now and only after they others are done feeding. Do I need to be doing anything special or just let nature take it's course? I wasn't planning on breeding and won't have room for that many more. The koi seem to be getting so big so fast!! Any suggestions, comments would be greatly appreciated....

Hi Chris,

I have some baby kois and they're about 6in long and still not barbels. Have a look for your self, just to give you a piece of mindSmile

Thank you.....I have read so many old posts by now I am sure they are a goldfish cross but you know what...Myself and my 3 kids just love to watch them and are excited to see babies. I am not a breeder just a nature lover so we will just enjoy them. They will probably stay brown colored but I can't bring myself to cull them. I am going to see if I can tell the gender of my koi though and watch more closely next spring. The koi here are just beautiful and it is fun to read about them. Thank you for replying though. I am glad your Koi is healthy again!
