True or False? Can't Post
The local pet store owner told me that my koi would not spawn together if there were other types of fish in the pond - so I would never have 'pure koi fry' if I also had goldfish in my pond...........true or false?

IMHO, False. Koi will spawn, but you run a chance of hybrids if koi eggs get fertilized by golfish sperm or vice versa.

I dont think I would deal with the pet store owner anymore as it does not look as if he know what he is talking about. UC is wright koi and goldfish will spawn and you can get a mix. I have goldfish and koi in my pond and when my fish spawn I will get a mix, some koi and some cross koi and goldfish. The cross fish are not anygood and will take a lot of room up in your pond as they grow very fast. They are plain jane fish and will have no barells so they are easy to tell apart.

HAHA, who told you that, whoever told you that, do slap him or her in the face for me. koi and goldfish can breed in the same enviroment, maybe thats why they have a cross breed, GOI.

Hi Thanks everyone for your replys.......Pictured are two of the fry I found in my pond in early July......they grew very fast - they are now about 3 1/2 and 4 1/2" long! I brought them inside for the winter. So, are these koi, goldfish, or koi???

The fish are koi!! Looks like one may be a Sanka and I dont know what the other is but if you have any koi-goldfish cross they will look nothing like koi with not a barell at all and the color is just plan some slight color but not like a koi. Send us some more pics as the the ones grow so we can see them again. It is fun to see their progress. Good luck with the fry.
