What kind of rope for spawning koi?	Can't Post

Hi, I was wondering what kind of rope do you put in a pond for getting koi to spawn to it. Just regular rope, or nylon or what. I can never find the eggs, but always see the babies. I think they spawn to the plant roots, or the NUMEROUS water hyacenth. I think they are spawning again, nangit! I don't really want them too right now as I am not knowledgeable enough right now, but I need to know asap before they spawn again, on something I can't find. I will just put a regular rope in there right now, and take it out if I hear different from you guys. Oh, and it's definately the koi that are spawning. - pondgirl Crazy

Nylon rope and unravel it some makeing it about . 4' sections and place in the bottom of your pond . The ropes need to be unraveled so that the nylon is in fine strands like hair.

juat purchase some spawning bushes from your local shop!

Once you start koi you just can't stop.

Thanks guys, I guess I'll use nylon, since I have it, and unravel the rope. All my local shops know nothing about spawning. With the exception of moorhaven, and they only know about the rope idea. Thanks for all your fast replies, pondgirl Smile

i didnt use spawning ropes i bought some floating oxgenating plants and my two ghost koi spawned on them so i took out the plants and put them in a separate container with an oxgenater in it and they have all hatched and growing rapidly

Go to your local landscape/farm supply and see if they have a knitted (not woven) shade cloth. Its inexpensive and works well for spawning mat. Cut into strips, bunch strips together and place in pond.

What is the size of nylon rope? what is the ideal length? What is the technique of application? cut into pieces or what?

Hi Abdul, to answer your question, you use spawning brushes, or nylon rope, or spawning mats for koi to spawn on/breed. They lay the eggs on these, and you remove them into a rearing pond, and there ya go. Hope this info helped, pondgirl... Smile

Thanks pondgirl for the information, maybe i'll use nylon brush instead of rope because brush has more surface area than nylon rope, is it correct?

I believe the method is to "untwine" the rope a bit, and nylon brush will probably work better if you can get a hold of it.
