Breeding season is usually springtime, although some here had late spawns in the middle of summer. Pro breeders generally wait several years before breeding in order to allow their females to grow larger and stronger. Spawning can be pretty rough and stressful to an immature female. They also produce more and larger eggs when they are older which improves yield and viability.
