Woke up to fish jumping! Can't Post

Ohh my goodness! This moring when I got up to check my Koi as always Wink I saw the show of my life! Last year I had just 2 koi that produced 6 babies! I didnt know , it was my 1st year and I guess they ate most of them..Frown I was better prepared today! I had redone my pond , its 3-4 feet deep..about 2000 gal...3 water falls running in...
So this year I took my yarn and tied it together like a mop...Ohhh my! They had filled these and both really large plants in the pond full of eggs! EVERYWHERE! So..I took them out and put them in the fry nursery...and came in the house and made six more yarn mops...I have 12 koi...do all the females lay eggs on the same day? They have filled those mops now! Its after 12 and they are still pushing each other and laying eggs...they could careless how close I get to them! It was like I pulled one mop out and they were waiting in line for me to put another in!

Dear carla1119

Well done Cool isn't it just a great feeling ???

When they get a good size it's suprising how much eggs you can get out of them huh ???

They don't all bread at the same time but each spawning can go on for a while.....

On a good diet and and in good conditions your likley to get 2 or 3 spawnings a year ...Thats alot of babys.....

Do you have an outlet for them ??? like a local aquatic shop who will take them for you ?

Tell the truth, How do you feel now ???? dose Highly chuffed come close ???

You are so right I feel like a proud Mother! Smile
Since the other day yet another one has eggs everywhere and the males are crazy! What a dance this is! I keep removing the yarn and they keep laying! Yes..it does feel wonderful.. I think I have told about 100 people outside this forum now! lol..
I have a few friends that would like them..but no, I havent a place to give them too Unsure
There is a builder down the road that does ponds for folks..so maybe he would know of a few good homes!
Thank you so much for answering back, I wasnt sure if one layed that many or if all my females layed them at once..was hoping somone would let me know...
Thanks again..
Mother to just a "few" more koi! lol
