I have some koi and a couple of gold fish. There are hounders of babies from 1/8 of an inch to 2 inches. But they are all brown. What do I have in my pond. are they koi gold fish or some other fish. They are not very pretty at all. Wht should I do?
And what are they? ahamman@hiwaay.net

Hi Alicia!
I remember when I first saw young koi, they were mostly colorless (white) or had an orangy tint to them. It'd be cool if you could post some pics for us to see and discuss what you have there!

I have exactly the same problem - about 50% of my fry this year are brown. In fact, I have caught one that has a mutation that looks like a "whale tail".

I too would like to know what causes the coloration of these fry and if this mutation (whale tail) has been seen before.
