Hi Marsy, What is the temp like where you live? Koi spawn in the spring when the temps are starting to rise. Net your koi and check the gill plates on the koi if it is a male you will fill a sand paper fill on the cover if it is a female full of eggs well you can see the fat belly. She wont have the sandpaper fill to the gill covers.

A few more questions. Are you sure that they have not already spawned, because if they have you wont get them to spawn again.

Are you ready to start hatching brine shrimp? Are you ready for a few 1000 gallon kiddie swimming pool and are you ready to change water out almost everyday?

If you can answer yes to these questions you are ready, It will be funSly

hi there koifishgirl.. thanks for the information.. i am a little confused about the word "fill"
the temperature here fluctuates these days.. raining and around 60 to today sunny and 78.. should i get a string thingy for the pond as i do not have any plants in there just my fish.. i was told that if i wanted them to spawn i could drop the temperature in the pond by adding colder water and that tricks them.. true? or just a blast of hot air.. lol... i see you are in Georgia so you have much hotter temps.. being north of seattle washington and on that island known as vancouver island we do have much cooler weather then you..but it does get up to the 80s in the summer..if you would like to chat just let me know i do need some inform. thanks again.. marsy

Sorry marsy, Im a little confused about the word thingySly Rough sand paper gill covers, does that help. If I were you I would make some spawning ropes for the spawning, they are easy to make using nylon rope about as big as your thumb. Cut is 6 ft lengths about four of them and cut 4 inch lenghts and thread about 6 inches apart, after you thread them, ravel out the ends, it is very easy to do. Took me about 30 mins to make the ropes.

Your temps are good for spawning so you need to go ahead a seperate the males and females, give them about 4 good days apart and then add you biggest female and two good males with her in the spawning pool. Do you know anything about the types of koi to spawn together? Where do you chat and when can I reach you?
