Hi Judy,

Nice going MumTongue I've never done culling before, but from what I have read you look for deformalities from mouth to tailsSmile

Here is a link http://australiankoiassoc.bizland.com/Culling.chtml This is a local akoi Club in sydney.
I wish I could be there and join the funWink. It would be a great experienceSmile

Jon

Hi koifishgirl,
I'll be watching your post with interest as I'm preparing to do the same. I thought I knew which ones had to go a few weeks ago, but many of the previous "cull picks" have begun to develop interesting color patterns soUnsureUnsureUnsure?

Hi Koifishgirl,

I agreed with Koi38, put your babies into a glass bow and cull out all the deformities and if you have enought room why not leave them for another few months. If you do not have room then my kois bubies overhere can do with some of the Yamabuki babies koi from you. So Kool to have babies koi from your own stockSmile.

But then i known what you going to say. They not "made in Japan"Laugh in Aust we do not have this luxury so Boo.. to meUnsure.

Regards

All the same type??? I don't think anyone ever gets that luckyTongue.
Your babies look an awful lot like mine and it is hard to choose. I checked out the website Jon gave and it has some pretty good culling tips. If it was me (and it isn't) I would look only for deformities this time around for culling and give the rest time to develop their colors better. I know that some of the fish I would have culled a few weeks ago have become keepers. Several have gone from plain grey to ginrin mettalic with nice sumi stripes. Too soon to tell if they will be Utsurimono or Hikarimoyo, but they are soooooooo young.

Thanks for the websiteCool. Good info there indeed. There was one thing that made me laugh though. When the writer said he made a floating frame net to put the babies in as they were netted I had to smileSmile. We netted our babies yesterday morning and not only were they jumpiing over the nets and the 1' high screen we used to corral them with, several jumped all the way out of the pond and landed on the rocks!ShockedShocked I'll probably never have any champion show koi, but I'm thinking about entering a few in the olympicsSly.
