This summer i had my first spawn. After 2 culls it is now 25 left of ap. 1000 They are now 2" and starts to change colour from yellow to orange/red I try to post a pic here for you. Unfortunetly the photo did not show the right colours, in reality they are much more red/orange. What do you say, are they worth Keeping ?
Yep. I would keep them if you have the room. The one that did come out with nice color in the pic looks to be a fair looking koi. At least keep them long enough to see how they turn out in the future. You never know as they change so much. Good luck with the little guys and gals Judy
The parents has been separeted inside my house the whole winter. When spring came I put them in a small quiet pond and waited... but nothing happend the first 2 weeks. Then I gave them lots of plants in the pond and added the second male. -Success !! They spawned the next morning. I took away the parents again and most of the plants and waited.. -A lot of eggs didn't make it, but after a week the first small fry was noticed. After another week i realised that it must be several hundreds left. I fed them with brine schrimp the first month and then daphnia. After the first cull I realised that I had started with over 1000 fry, that was reduced to 150. I let them grow another month until the next cull and now its just 25 left. Now I ceep them inside my house in a 720 liters aquarium where I can see them grow and change colors. Must say that they are soo cute !!

Ok.....other than my main pond.....I don't got no other tank to keep them inside..... So if I follow kinda what you did...I can get a plastic grid sheet to seperate the males and females for the winter in the main pond and then when they are ready in spring I just take them out to the breeding containers to lay eggs....

Almost christmas now and the fry is growing on Here is some pics i took yesterday The problem is to decide which i shall ceep. any comments? Shall i trow them all? pic from above: pic from side:
I only see three that I would cull in the 1st pic. The little one and the two on top of each other with to much shiro. The one with the hi on the head only and the two step koi that the pattern is not deep enough in the body . The pattern does not go down far enough so that when the koi grows it will just be a spot of hi on top. One other that I really like the hi wraps all the way around the koi and this is a koi that you should cull but I like it Judy
Spring is in the air and it will soon be time for another spawn. The fry from last year grows on but it seems that the best looking ones is the ones that grows most slowly.. Grrr,,, I've learned a lot and hopes for better result this year. I will post some pics and hope you will comment them.

So what should I do to prepare for the next spawn?

How did you prepare for the spawn exactly? because I'm trying to get a sucessful one...
